Okay, I know I should use the search button, and I'm probably a ricer, but is it really worth it to swap engines or should I stick with the ka? Also, if I keep the ka, with what parts could I make over 250 HP, besides a turbo?

Its up to you, really. From what ive heard, its a pain in the *** to PROPERLY go ka-t (turbocharged KA), but its also completley worth it, from what ive heard.

The KA is a little bit heavy, with its iron block. The KA alone, is actualy heavyer than the SR and its transmission.

SR is VERY common, and you dont see KA-T that often, if that helps a little with your decision.

But again, its really up to you, and what you want. If you have a high milage KA, and really dont want to swap to a low milage KA, then a different engine might be better for you.

Its really not that hard, I have a buddy with Ka-t.

Just make sure you rebuild your engine. But, Ka-t owns all.

Not to jack you thread but I just have one question. Why would you say to rebuild you ka yourself? Is it expensive to have it rebuilt or do shops just not know what they are doing?

I never said do it yourself, I just said to make sure that you have it rebuilt, It doesnt matter if its by a shop or what, if you know what your doing then why not do it your self and save you some bills.

Shops in general are expensive. I rebuilt a KA a year ago for a turbo but didn't know what I knew now about the motors and I foolishly took the quick way out which cost me a motor. I rebuilt that thing last April and just did an engine swap last week to correct the mistakes I made so long ago, my s13 sat for almost a year. It's not hard to rebuild at all. The only annoying part is timing the motor. (at least it was annoying for me). Just takes time, so make sure you have the place to do it, the tools and the time. You want to change the bearings and re-ring the pistons are just get OEM pistons, better yet if you want to turbo the car it would be wise to replace everything @ once. pistons, rods, gaskets, bearings, new timing kit, metal HG make that sucker a brick for under $1500. Just remember putting a turbo on a old worn KA is gonna cost you in the run, so get ready to spend the same $$ on a turbo KA as you would an SR, course the KA block would be much more sturdy and produce more power depending on what turbo you get. Goodluck.

even if you lose the ka do your homework on an sr20 or whatever swap youd do because most sr20's ive seen have some miles on them and a sr20 is a lot more expensive to rebuild than a ka24de in my opinion. what do you want more reliability or performance.even a kat rebuilt the right way is more reliable than an sr20 is with lets say 50,000 that has been laying around for 10-15 years.
