so, i have a '95 s14 and i have come accross a delimma. i bought the car for 700, did the 5-speed swap, replaced exhaust, practically complete brake overhaul, rear struts, wheels & tires, thermostat, cornerlight, etc etc. the list goes on.
today i take it to go get it inspected and got some bad news. i need to replace the hood and headlights. the mounting brackets on the headlights are broken so the lights are held in by zip ties (yes, zip ties) and the hood doesnt latch all the way.
so the big question is: should i keep her? im about at my wits end with the car and im not sure if keeping it is the right choice. is it ready for someone else to put their hours of labor into it or should i just grit my teeth and keep on dumping money into it?

doesn't sound like a big deal at all, keep the car, head-light brackets and hoods aren't hard to replace

If you don't want to fool with it, then sell it for what you paid for it + 5spd swap.

If you do want to keep it, are the lights functioning? Are the zip ties doing their job? Its a 700 dollar car, i'm sure a bunch of stuff is zip tied.

Keep on keepin' on.

I think he's saying he has core support damage and is asking how he can fix that. The only way I know of is replacing it.

As long as it doesn't have MAJOR problems like a rusted out frame, bent frame, etc, you should keep it! I've spent a buttload of money on my car, and $0 on modifications. Just keep fixing all the stuff thats wrong with it, modify some things while you replace them (i.e. need new struts, aim for good coils or adjustable shocks/struts). In the end, you'll have a nice stage 0 car that you can mod the hell out of and not worry about.

the engine is in decent shape and there is no rust so i suppose your right. ive just got to do some of that dreaded body work and get new parts for the driver side power window and she should be pretty damned good.

however, if i dont shift perfectly the rear end makes a clunking noise...what could this be?

95s14green - your only problems with front end me too. I'm going to convert my front end I cannot wait. I think you should keep it. I'm keeping my mines because it has no rust at all, just needs body attention. :)

OP if you were local id come give you a hand with the front end... I replaced a front end on a '01 Altima that someone had rear-ended someone with to pay for my 240, all the work you need sounds EXACTLY like what I did!

We did it the hard way too, bought a front clip from a local junkyard and I took it apart piece by piece, drilling out spot-welds for the rad core support (oh my god, so many of them) but I got it done!

I think youll have it a little bit easier because 1. Its a 240sx for god's sake! And 2. Its not wrecked like the Altima was...

good luck man!! keep us posted :dblthumb:

Go for it, damage doesn't look really really bad. People have fixed much worse 240's. No matter what 700 dollar car you buy its gunna need some amount of work, its just a matter of what you are comfortable with.

i know what you are going throught bro lol, i traded a 1995 civic coupe for a 1995 240sx, drove for about a week and then it overheated, so i replaced everything in my coolant system, radiator, water pump, hoses, thermostat, and the list just goes on, and then took it out and it over heated again, turns out it was the hoses on the back side of the block so i replaced all those. and then my gas tank was leaking so i had to drop my entire rear end, pull the tank and discover that the tank was unfixable, so i dropped 1400 on an entirely new fuel system, beside the fuel rail an injectors, which are on their way. 15 gallon fuel sell and metal straps locking in place in my trunk with a high flow external electric fuel pump, and so on, hell the two elbow fittings for the fuel line and return line were 39 a piece lol, and then i had to replace my valve cover gasket and my plugs and some 8.5mm plug wires. got some new wheels and tires, rare a** msw rims from an older bmw, but now i have to get some suspension s*** cause my struts are about to go and replace all my rods, and i have to find my huge oil leak that has recently spawned so m not driving it for now, and i have to replace my front main crank shaft seal, cause a buddy of mine rev popped it, but all this work is what really makes the car yours, it makes it so much better for you, im doing a rb20det or a vg30de swap into very soon as well.

KEEP the 240 bro, its hell and rough for a while but totally worth it in the end, just by knowing that this is yiur car and you built it your self, thats why i do it and give up so much other s***
