Should I just let him turbo the Talon?

Yes, this isn't really 240 related, but it can be.

The BF and I have a joint Laser RS-T project car. We just bought a splendid ported turbo off ebay for it and installed it yesterday (now I can say I've installed forced induction, yay!). The car still has some issues....probably quite a few of them as it has 201k miles on it.

Clutch/transmission problems are a possibility, as are boost issues considering that, again, everything but the snail itself has 200k miles. The engine checks out nicely though, compression is strong all across the board.

So today we're going to head back out and troubleshoot it some more, trying to determine if it's worth salvaging or not.

The other option is to take the turbo components and put them on his '92 n/a Talon. His Talon is VERY nice and hella quick and a turbo on it would not be a waste of resources.

My personal motivation is more towards my S14 than the DSM, so I'm not completely opposed to just giving him the turbo stuff and having us part out or sell the Laser all together.

But I don't know. I want a project car, and I'd feel kind of bad giving the Laser such hope and then crushing it's dreams of being back on the road again. :D

What do you think? Turbo the Talon, or restore the RS-T?

he's got RWD envy! I'de go with the nicer car. The talons compression is higher but that is ok if you plan on a serious project. High compressions is fun on a turbo car if you can stay ping free. oan unless one is an auto... i'de go with the 5spd. But as far as 1G DSM's go you shouldn't have any trouble swapping the laster turbo goodies onto the talon.

They're both 5-speed, and he'd only run about 4psi of boost.

We're going to peer into the depths of the Laser a bit more, but if it turns out it just has too many issues to be worthwhile, we'll probably go ahead and take a couple days and fix up Mr. Talon with the turbo. :)

odd your car is the most attractivly styled and has the most potential of any of the listed cars... IMO.

running 4psi on any car is a shame. Turbo the 240 and start with 9 assuming compression is good. Go from there.

I'de guess 10 to 12 would be ok on the DSM. My 2g ran 13 pounds STOCK on the low compression. It was running 15 and spikin at more like 18 or 19 with NO detonation at all. Stock IC and Injectors. (i did have a Holly 255 LPH in there tho)

the first gen eclipse/talno/laster has the same motor as all the turbo DSM's just slightly highter compression. 12 should be fine

He can bolt the turbo right up with no problems. Just requires some minor tweaking to route the oil and coolant return lines to the turbo...plus running the boost gauge and controller and such, but not really a big issue.

Turns out the Laser seems alright. :D We sort of drove it yesterday. It drives under it's own power right now and boosts up to 8psi so far. Once the exhaust is taken care of (new downpipe, testpipe, then stock system off the '92 for now since the Laser's is rotted) it should be good to go....beyond the more minor stuff that needs taken care of.

my friend has a 99 eclipse RS, and im pretty sure the turbo and the non have different motors, or so he says, i figured the same motor was in both, however one turbo'd, he claims he has a 42oA, and im almost dead positive that the gs-t and gsx have the 4g63, as well as the lancer, so whats the REAL story ?
