The dealer did a repair on my M's fuel tank last week and now my gas gauge won't work. This means I have to drag my car back out to the dealer again and get a loaner.

The only cost associated with a loaner is the fuel charge. Although from my standpoint, they should be giving ME a few bucks for gas for my car since they screwed up the repair.

I hate getting nickel-dimed. At a previous dealer filled my tires with nitrogen without telling me and put it on my bill. It wasn't until I stepped to the door, held it open, and invited him to come outside with me so we could settle the issue like men that the sniveling coward took the charge off of my bill.

I don't mind the $10 fuel charge as I drive the snot out of their loaners and bring them back empty. Also, the charge is for as long as you have the loaner - 1 day or 5 days is still $10. So, I almost always keep the loaner until the next day so I can put miles on it and not my car.

But putting nitrogen in your tires without permission and then charging you? That's a lawsuit, my friend -- or maybe free loaners for life!

good luck --

I'm sorry to hear about that, but mistakes happen and that's why they have the loaners for you to use. I had previously asked about the fuel in the loaners at another site and some say they have to fill up the tank, and others say they don't.

How about just asking for something nicely to see if they'd be willing to give you a discount or allowing you to return your loaner with a few less gallons. I don't think it's the dealership's intent to screw you.

Hope they fix the problem.

I've never heard of having to pay for anything associated with a loaner.

I have always paid for the gas for a loaner at Honda dealers. I don't expect it to be any different at Infiniti dealers. Why would the dealer pay for your gas? Usually they don't care abt a few gallons but I am sure they won't let you use a quarter tank of gas for free.

My local dealer here charges a $15 fuel charge on a loaner unless you put gas back in before you return it. They give it to you with a full tank. That seems fair enough to me.

The issue is that it is their screw up that is the reason I am having to drag my car in there in the first place. Why should I incur any cost associated with their issue?

It isn't that big of a deal so I don't anticipate having to challenge anyone to a fist fight this time around.

Most other brands/dealers do not have the option of a loaner car. $10 for a loaner car is not bad at all considering what you are getting. Just because you bought your car doesn't mean you have the right to their cars. All cars have problems...that is a fact of owning a car. Just be glad that they give out loaners as an option for you.

My dealer gives them out with no charge, but they only put in 4-5 gallons of gas. If you use more, then you need to buy gas. I think that is a pretty damn good deal.

The last time my dealer screwed up, they actually came out to pick up my car and drop off the loaner to me at work...20mins away! That is service!

In Nashville, the dealer also charges $10.00 a day. However, we tell them to delete the charge and we will replace any fuel we use upon return. We normally use $2-4 of gas. They have not had a problem with this approach!Good LuckM11ilt

This is my 3rd Infiniti from 3 different dealers and I've never had to pay for the loaner (rental) but I've always had to return it with a full tank of gas. The Dealer who sold me my current Infiniti has a $50 service charge if you fail to bring back a loaner with less than a full tank of gas. Why would you expect that you would not have to fill up the tank of a loaner? If you were driving your car you'd be paying to put gas in it.

But the reason I am there in the first place is because of their screw up. If you paid a $50 delivery fee when bought a couch from the furniture store and they delivered the wrong color would you want to pay another $50 delivery fee when they delivered the right color?

If your doctor left a sponge in you when he did your surgery, would you want to pay another round of co-pays and such for the surgery to remove the sponge.

All they should be doing by giving you a loaner in the case of their screw up is attempting to make you "whole". I am having to spend my valuable time and gas money to head out there.

Its a little different... we're taking about something that you would have paid for anyway... unless your car gets astronomical gas mileage and you don't ever have to put any gas in to go to work, run errands, go to the movies, etc. Infiniti is correcting their screw up by fixing your car and not charging you anything for it and in addition they are providing you with another vehicle so your can go about your daily activities. Gas should still be on your dime. I took my G35 coupe in for warranty repair that had to be done at the same time I had a vacation scheduled. I took the loaner on vacation instead. Are you saying that they should have covered all the gas for that as well?

You paid for the service on your car, not for a loaner. You chose to pay for the loaner. IF you do not want to spend the $10, you do not have to. They offer it as an option to you.

You are not comparing apples to apples here. They messed up on the service to your car, not the loaner. It would be more like you paid for the option to have a "comfortable" bed post surgery and you have the option to do it again on the correction to remove the sponge.

The loaner is a *service* they offer, you can chose to use it or not. If you do, there is a cost and it is more than fair in my opinion.

There was no charge for the loaner and I didn't have to challenge anyone to fisticuffs to get things resolved in the correct and proper way.

That is the professional way to handle things and the dealer ensured my continued business.

My local Infiniti dealer does not charge for the loaner, but will charge $20.00 if you bring back the loaner car with less gas than what it had. The issue I have is that they usually give a loaner car with 1/4 or 1/2 tank. If I drive it around for more than 1 day, I have to guestimate how much gas to pump back to get to the correct level. I'd rather have a full tank and then bring it back full.
