So I've come to a point in my life, where I want something RWD, RWD and have potential to mod.

The Spec V hasn't been giving me any real problems, but FWD is kinda pissing me off, and knowing the limiations of the B15 chassis is a turn off as well.

I have come to a chance that I don't know if I should pass or keep...

I can get a 240SX (S13 hatch) basically for free, no rust, no damage, no problems. I have enough money for an engine swap, it has all poweroptions + AC.

The only catch is I give up the spec v, and give it to my brother to drive. (I can't afford insruance on more than one car haha)

So should I do it?

List your reasons why or why not.

Oh yea, the car will be used for drag, autox, road racing, and some show :)

I won't be giving up the spec v until I find the right 240SX, so it'll be mine until I find another car. Then my bro will probally use the spec to be a trade in for a Mazda 3 or a Civic SiR, or some mini-suv thing.

Some questions I have about the 240SX, how reliable is it? hopefully it's decently reliable that the engine will atleast last me til um well say til next spring when I have time to do the swap my self (although I have the money now, I have no time)

what are the main problem areas for S13s with power options and AC?Any other things I should be concerned about the S13?What are some things I should look out for when looking at used S13s?Give up 03 Spec V (FWD) for S13 240 (RWD)?

its an old, used car first off, so theres always little problems that sneak up(pray thats all). youll be putting a used motor in most likely from a crashed car.(wonder why they crashed it;))

I'd keep it.

it's new and won't give as many problems.

The Specs have apparently been doing pretty good in road racing lately too.

Man the S13 is not a car for people who don't have time to work on them. Least not IMO. Especially not a swapped car. If it is what you want go for it but be warned they are old even the newest one is 11 years old for a hatch. The air will either work or not. If not then you will proly need an evaporator or condensor. The Timing chain on the KA has horrible guides that go down around 115000 miles. The bushings are probly shot or close to it. Slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder will go out. And many more I can't remember. This is all the stuff I have delt with personally. oh and the power antenna wont work. lest you are a lucky bastard. :D

For power antenaee I don't care about it.

As for a full tune up, shocks/springs will be replaced almost immediately after.

Everything else, will be replaced before I pay for the car. It has to pass safty here, and all crucial engine and brake pads have to be fairly new to pass.

The spec v isn't problem free either, it's not exactly what I'd call a reliable car...

Most chicks will dig the spec V more than the S13. However, I prefer RWD any day!

yea it's a tough call for me, the thing is not caring about the engine (it has to be still good and last til next spring) but finding an S13 with power options, that has a GOOD frame, good body, and clean undercarrage.

And that the fact RWD>FWD

Yeah...I just got mine, it's in real real good condition, however it has no AC and I have to pay to get power steering...but it's definitely the cleanest S13 I have seen, so there are some out there, just keep your eye open.

Haha not any recent ones, I redded out the tail lights and it's fully debaged. It's aztek red.

Nothing done to it, but if I can't find a good S13 by spring next year, I'll be putting all my money into it.

There I found the gallery, but they're all pretty old pics. The front SER no longer is there, I like the clean look more :)

Keep the Spec V. If you get an S13, you're pretty going to have to replace the entire suspension, as I've recently come to terms with. For the amount of work you'll have to do on it, you'd almost be better off getting a rolling chassis, and then replacing the suspension and doing a motor swap. If I had known what was up with ~200,000 mile suspensions, I would have fixed the suspension before making it my daily driver.
