I was looking around at new car possibilities because my 240 has been giving me so many troubles. I think I fixed everything there is to fix on it engine wise! OK...maybe not everything, but the engine was rebuilt with new pistons and rings and what not, I've put on new radiator hoses, new radiator, new water pump, new starter...a few other minor things. I've spent more money fixing it than what I have paid for it. I would like to keep it but I am looking for something more reliable. I recently started looking at the 03 Sentra SE-R Spec V's and think that is what I will get. I have weighed the option to buy a 300ZX Twin Turbo as they are quite cheap when you can find them now. (I am considering $10,000 to be quite cheap since the sticker price was up there when they were out from 90-96.) I have heard from various people that the 300ZX's can become quite troublesome. What do you guys think? Remember, I want something reliable as a daily driver since I drive 40 miles a day to and from school...

yeah, don't think you'd want a TT for a commute, gas hog anyway

you could always get a Honda beater and let the 240 be a project:D

300 twin turbos give out at like 60,000 miles. if you buy one with over 70,000 make sure the timing belt was changed along with the turbos, because those are known to snap. also, any work you get done on the car is going to be very expensive because the engine is so crammed that most work requires engine removal. fun? yes, reliable? not very.

wow ur in the same dilemma im in. My 240 has been givin me problems an i need a reliable source of transportation an i was lookin at the spec-v's. 02's are nice but many seem to have problems, 03's are better because most problems were revised but not cool red interior an gearing is alittle better. Plus basic bolt ons will easily have it in the 14's. Theres turbo kits our to get you 260whp which is good for a high 12 second pull with good tires an driving. So once I get some money together for a down payment Im the first inline for a Spec V. Nissan is still tryin to find me one.

yeah...i found a silver 02 Spec V around here for 9900 with 16K miles on it...I wanted to jump on the offer but don't have that money just yet...Ive decided to go with the Spec V...I cant wait till i can get the money! i actually have enough money in the bank ro afford a nice new 350Z...but im keeping that for house downpaymet! The only thing i am worried about with the Spec Vs is the recall deal...

it's like this if you need a daily driver that you don't need to worry about something going wrong with and that has some power get the sentra. But if you want a car that everyone sweats you when your driving it and are not worried about the repair costs then the 300 . Trust me I miss my twinturbo so much but don't miss the cost of keeping it on the road it's true everything is so crammed in the engine and if the turbos need replacing the labor will cost you as much as the turbos themselves that is the reason i sold mine. Or you can buy an s-14 and drop a sr motor for 10k and spank the front wheel drive sentra thats the way i would go

i would definatly go with the Sentra, only because i test drove one and it was pretty fun. Its sounds wonderful (nice and throuty), and has excellent tourque and power to round it all off, and not to mention the reliability factor. extra 100 points.

uuuh, dude? keep the car. if youve fixed everything that you said you did it should run until the end of time. i dont see why you would put your faith in a car that could have the same amount of problems you fixed with your current one. and remember, for $10k, that 240sx could be wicked fast and/or reliable as hell.

I seriously considered purchasing a Spec-V. I was to the point where I was ready to go down to the dealer and drive one away. Then I posted a message on a Spec-V specific board asking, "If you had ~$18,000 to spend on a car, what would you do?" Luckily for me, someone steered me in the direction of SR swaps and this place.

For what you'd end up paying for a Spec-V, you could put it into your 240 and have a much better automobile.

If you are driving 40 miles a day why get something sporty at all? Cause that is 40+ any additional driving that you may do (road trips, ect). When put a ton of miles on a car, get a cheap one (Sentra XE/GXE). Putting miles on something you want to work on, or do modifications to can be annoying.

phax...i think the car has just had enough abuse...an engine swap would only cure the engine ills...but the chassis demands would still have to be met...i dont see my 240 being worth enough money to put all the money into it to make it better...ive already paid about 1500 in different repairs for it already...it is just costing me too much money

im not sure if i will put any mods on it...but i do want something that will easily waste all my friends and their civics without mods...and the Spec V looks to be the best choice...plus it does get good gas mileage which would help with the commute...
