Make sure to include timing the sr back to spec again. Also do a list of tools required(especially special tools)

I believe the only special tool would be an angle torque wrench. FSM describes how to get around not having one.

i just rebuilt my motor, there is no need to take the front cover off, that would involve taking off the oil pan and it is not needed to remover the head, atleast for me anyway. is there an add-on piece you can get for a regular wrench that has the angle thing on it? iv seen it befor but that was in a hardware store in hagerstown and havnt seen them since.

A write up would be awesome corey, just make a new thread with something like DYI or something to that effect.

well i dont have an angle wrench, or an add on thing. my uncle said it will be ok just make it so the wrench turns that degree by eyeballing it and it will be ok, hes been a mechanic for a very long time. basicaly i will put the car on ramps, remove the exhaust remover all the wiring out of the way, drain fluids, remove intake manifold, remove turbo stuff, cas timing chain tensioner, pull cams, remove head, timing bs. no now iv got a couple questions,

to keep the timing right, can i just put the crank at tdc and the timing will be ok, then use somthing to hold the chain in place, im not totaly removing the head, im gona remove my hood and have a lift hold the head in the air hovering over the motor enough to swap the gasket and yea. will that keep the timing in place as long as i keep the timing marks in place? or if i take the valve cover off, and turn the crank a few times will it eventualy put the timing chan color links in the proper mating marks? and also

to be positive, should you use the spray on gasket or not? they say the front cover area leaks oil through it so should i spray it on the hole thing, or not at all? im pretty shore that leak will only be a tiny seeping but ya never know. i dont plan on getting 5 bajillion hp so im not gona worry about blowing my hg ever.btw its a cometic multilayer gasket whic his why im asking.

i just got done putting arp headstuds on my redtop yesterday as a matter of fact...you dont need a angle wrench adapter...you would only need the angle wrench if you are putting head bolts back in. for the head studs the yellow paper that came in the arp box says to hand tighten the studs and torque the nuts to 70 ft-lbs....double check it.

as for holding up the head i would just take it off because your going to have to take the chain off the cams, because it wont let the head pull up if its still on the cam. and yes you can hold the chain, what i used was a string through the chain and pulled it down tight...make sure it doesnt move or you'll be kicking your self in the ***.

and before you put the studs in replace the head gasket and put the head back on, then drop the studs in because you wont be able to get the head over one of the chain guide.

let me know if you have any questions and i will be glad to help as much as i can... keep us posted...good luck, joe...

yea i said il be removing the cams, meaning the chain will be off already. see if you dont use an angle wrench then the studs just go to a certain tq anyway. but yea thanks. i was debating whether to put the studs on then the head, il put the head on then the studs.

its easier if you have some one else helping you, so then they can hold the chain tight till you put the head on...
