1992 Nissan 240sx se, A/C, P/W, P/L, 17inch wheels on 215/45/17 Dunlope SPX 9000, 2 1/2 cat back exhaust with a flow master. 2 inch drop, Eibach springs, tokico shocks, larger preformace sway bars. The car was origionally from florida, and came here with a blown headgasket? Has a clean title yet I tapped the whole car with my finger and found a spot that was bondo'd, and he said it was in a crash before he got it, this was the door/pass side rear quater panel. Paint is oxidized and probably needs a new one soon. Has 128k miles and the registration expired 3 months ago. I guess the headgasket blew and he redid the head and resurfaced it himself, and it runs pretty good. Asking price is 3300, what do you guys think.

i would try to talk him down a lil of course, just to see how far down u can get him, but run a carfax on it, and if u really feel the need to, get a licensed mechanic to check it out, and then buy her, is it a 5spd or auto?

IMO, no. Waaaay overpriced.

Let's review...

Paint is ****.

Car was in an accident and probably had some ****ty body work done (ie. slap a ton of Bondo on it, prime and paint).

Somewhat high mileage.

Personally, I'd prefer to buy a car that wasn't modded. Chances are, the guy drove it hard. Hopefully he took care of it too, but it's sometimes hard to tell.

Registration is expired. Is it inspected? People often sell cars when inspection is pending and they *know* it won't pass.

Sorry man...I think this one stinks.

Edit: I guess I'm a cynical bastard. ;)

5spd, he owns an import engine company, so I would think he knows about engines a bit, isnt there no law in florida if a car gets totaled you dont have to report it or something? Like in that story about the guy who went there to buy that bmw that was chopped up and he didnt know about it.

$2k. $3300 is insane.it's a used car. when you sell a car with mods that doesn't change it's blue book value. just factory options do. and since it has a questionble history the low $2k range is more than reasonable.you know what they say about 'mechanic cars' (if he is indeed a tech of sorts)

that is correct. You dont HAVE to report it as being rebuilt. It is optional. However my roomates bmw does say rebuilt on the window. And yes, get a mechanic to look at it. Carfax only tells so much.

in cali if the **** is busted when you buy the car or withing 30 day (or something like that) you can make the guy pay for it...

my friend just bought an izuzu rodeo... the head wasnt torqued all the way and it fried the gasket a few days after buying it, and the cat was bad too so when he went to get it smogged he had to put up like 400 to get it to pass and the guy had to pay for it all...

Blah blah blah. I wouldn't buy that thing. All that stuff just tells me it's been abused harshley. It may look decent on the surface but all those other things you pointed out like bondo blown head gasket and what-not tells me that there are more problems that will pop up that will end up costing you more money. There are alot more things that can go wrong with the car than just engine. Think about the brakes, electrical, suspension, trans. All of those things wear out extra fast when a car has been driven hard. I say keep looking.

look at it this way, the car has probably had a few owners, like most of our 240s have......so you just have to figure that they've all been driven hard, if you can live with your 240 having bondo then go for it....my .02
