Alright guys this is my chance to own a 240 finally. There is a car about 2 hours south of here. It's a 90 240sx se coupe for about $750 or less. But there's a catch, it doesn't have reverse! How big of a problem is this and how much would it cost to fix it? My friends are saying it'll cost a grand of more and the best way to fix it is to replace the entire transmission. Any suggestions may help. Thanks

Just get a used transmission. I see 5-speeds on ebay go for $200 or less, often from people who are only selling 'cause they did the SR swap. Then you can have a garage put it in for you or get some of your nay sayer friends to help you swap it. It's a lot cheaper to buy a good used one than get your crappy one rebuilt.

reverse is overrated anyhow. I mean the 240sx is like a big bike anyway. Hell a lot of cruisers have bigger engines than these. lol, build some muscle up too maybe.

a friend of mine messed up the transmission in my old p.o.s altima and it blew out the reverse. i drove without it for a long *** time, the only thing was if i parked in a parking lot i had to park in a space where i could pull through so im facing the driving lane. im so used to it, now i do it all the time, even though i have reverse:D

i guess its worth it then. here's the acutal deal: 90 240 coupe 5spd (no reverse) good condt, and 93 240 hatch blk 5 spd (rear quarter panel is very bad). the guy is selling it for 1800 but i can prolly get it down to 1500. is it still worth it?

thats way over priced. I would keep looking. Many people find them for around that much in pretty decent condition

I am doing an SR swap in an 89 240sx. I will sell you my 5 spd transmission (with new clutchmasters clutch) for $200. It shifts flawlessly.

let me know,

dave
