There is a Nice 1991 Q45 very close to me but the owner "Lost the title". I just saw the ad today on Craigslist and I am going tommorow to see the car. It has a Peal exterior and I forgot to ask the interior color. He says it runs and drives fine but the hood hinge is broken. A broken hood hinge is unheard of to me as is a lost title for a perfectly good car.

I will get a Car Fax (either I will buy the car Fax if I can work the price down or he will if he wants to sell it). My friend (who owns a junk yard) will not take the car what so ever. Who would in there right mind. The guy selling it says I can get a duplicate title myself, But if its such a good car why doesn't he right?

Now I parted out a black Q45 2 years ago and now a white Q45 comes along. Should I buy it or not?

Plus it took TWO YEARS to sell the parts from the other car and I still have some left. So with the recession getting worse it doesn't look like a good idea.

I would pass on this one- no title, wrong color for you to possibly use body parts, and as you said, very hard to even break even trying to strip and sell parts.......these cars are getting so old that the potential market for spare parts has even dried up......its not like the Q is an old corvette or jag xke that makes financial sense to keep investing $$$ into . My guess is 90% of the g50 still on the road are on their last owner and only 1 major needed repair before they get sent to the junkyard.....just not economically prudent to keep nursing along and outdated compared to more contemporary offerings available.

Junk yards will not accept the carcase [PERIOD!] without a valid title, you are stuck with ginding up the pieces at home. A title is worth $250 just for junking.

Lost titles can be replaced since the state maintains the registration. But this is the current owner's headache - if he actually is the registered owner. If he is, it's just red tape. If he isn't, you don't want it.

I would avoid it. I guess you could always get what you want off of it and then roll the carcas to a quiet street somewhere. It'll get towed eventually

It would make an excellent mooring weight.

Without a pink slip in hand consider it a junker. If you do plan on buying it and registering it look at the plates to see when the fees were last paid. You can count on having to pay all the back registration, current registration and penalties to get it in your name. It could get very expensive. Let us know what you find out.

Check your states statutes for "abandoned" cars. You may be able to claim the title, but expect it to take a long time and lots of your time ... I'd pass on the car.

Paul there is NO way you can get a title for it if its a lost title in Massachusetts. Ive been threw this a few times. The three junkyards in western MA/eastern NY i deal with would take it. Could probably get 300$ without title and maybe 6-700 if it runs. I got one in the yard now and they let me take as i please. Shes sittin right next to an all black 91 Q45a. Someone hit a wall going like 60 with it and it hardly shows. Frame doesn't even look bent but it was dropped on its friggin side and its been sittin there for 2 years now. 96k miles on the ODO. What color are the seats? ive been needing a new driver seat for a while. I think the color is ivory, forgot the code off the top of my head.

I never went to see the car because I knew it would be a waste of time. The person didn't want to offer a Car Fax to prove its a good car. How does someone loose the title to a perfectly good working car?!?!

Hey BCC93QT did you get the rear bar off the car?

I think you put way, way too much stock into a carfax report......it is next to useless in my opinion,as in 1994 I purchased a brand new G20 and drove it from new til it had 150,000 miles on it when I traded it in on my Q at the Infiniti dealer.....out of curiosity I ran its VIN a few months later and mysteriously it had "lost" 100,000 miles......thats right, my old G20 now showed only 50,000 miles on its carfax report.......worse than useless in my book.

I am not doubting what your saying its just that Car Fax has good ads that get to you. Also I wanted to buy a 1994 Q45 (Before i found the '93Q) and I found that the odometer had been turned back a couple of times.

I wonder if people can get around Car Fax reports by just having the owners go directly to insurance companies and see what comes up.

I think the car in question was once in a Haverhill dealer, I test drove it (without the owner in the car ), I did noticed a loud squeal at higher RPM's, Such as a belt pulley bearing.... Weird thing about the car I test drove which I think may be the one in question had a terrible interior, the back seat had cracks in the leather, rust on the exterior....
