I'm looking at buying this 240sx hatchback. The car is exactly what I'm looking for hatchback, 5sp and cruise. I would like to purchase a sr20det to put in it.

Heres the one MAJOR flaw. The frame is rusted in a very bad spot. Is there anyone who can tell me if this is fatal rust or not? The tire you are looking at is the front passangers side. It looks to be rusted completly through the frame rail. The other side is pretty much the same story. Is this common or not?

my 1991 has no rust but i am in vancouver where there is no salt. i did see a 240sx from the east and it was rusted out. a mechanic from an area with lots of salt would probably know.

I'm thinking no too, but with the head gasket blown and the guy only asking $200 for it, its tempting.

This is so sad, I've been looking for a 240sx for so dang long.

Not worth it as anything but a parts car, don't buy it to drive.

How much do you think its worth in parts? If I can get it for a couple hundred maybe it would be worth it. It's spose to have a new clutch and water pump. Head gasket is blown but the engine does run. New AC compressor, too.

The car is a 1989 240sx 5sp. All the body panels look pretty descent. Its just a thought right now.

I agree. As a chassis to start your project with, that thing's crap. There's probably more rust on it that you aren't seeing now. However, as a parts car $200 is probably worthwhile. If you want to go the trouble, you could probably make a little bit of money and get some useful bits for yourself.

Yeah, definitely not a viable project platform due to the rust, but that doesn't mean that it isn't worth $200. Rest of the body panels look really good, either re-sell the whole car or part it out. I'm sure you could make more than $200.

How much time are you willing to invest to get a few measly bucks out of this heap? You will be doing all the parts pulling yourself to get the maximum value and then you still need to find buyers while this hulk sits there uglifying your driveway.A better use of your time would be to pass on this poor car and get a part-time job. Or even a full time one. Unless you need some specific parts from this car, you will make more money and make it more quickly with a job.

Yea, its just one of those thoughts like "Hey, I could make a quick buck". Those thoughts in my head are followed closely by "I could save a couple of bucks". Both of those thoughts rarely save money and waste soooo much time.

Thanks for the input too guys. Honestly if the rust was any where else I would prolly buy it, but its on the frame rails. Same area that the cross member bolts too.

Buy it, for $200 thats not a bad investment. You could almost make all your money back from your throttle body and rear disk brake assembly alone. Just sign up on a 280z forum and post a sale. Or list it on Ebay under Datsun stuff.

Buy it. Part it out, or keep what you need for your next car.

yeah dude, the rest of that car looks good. get it, i would buy it today for 200 for a parts car.

It will pay for itself very quickly if you have problems with the other no-rust 240 you plan on buying.

My fastback has that rust too(opposite side and farther back), I got it for $700 running and SE though. I am having a friend who builds frames and welds for a living work on it for me. Maybe I am crazy but being in ohio I don't see this as too bad considering some stuff I have seen and I trust the work of the guy who will be fixing it for me.

d00d.. buy that **** NOW. $200!! (IN CANADIAN MONEY!?!?!?! OH SNAP!!))

Just don't insure it and keep it for parts..

if you buy it you can part it out, as well as sell me your Coolant Reservoir!!

$200.. that thing has more than $200 worth of parrts.. especially since those body panels are sooo god damn clean!

Buy it and sell the parts.. believe me..

but also look around for a better project car.

YOU SHOULD GRAB IT IN THE AIR. $200 IS CHEAP.

buy it if u have a space to store it at. big garage or back of the house. --windows, panels, window motors--

i guarantee that you will need to change panels on your other car. you will hit it or scratch it badly from drifting. just buy the damn thing. there are kids out there who buy cpu's for their pcs for $700 bucks alone. look what youre considering. JUST BUY IT BEFORE ITS GONE, (if u have a space).
