My parents are thinking of selling their 2001 Qx4. I just cleaned it yesterday, and its in okay condition. The outside has a lot of scratches, and the leather has minor damage. It has 90K miles, and runs like new. Il take some pics later. I have a 1993 Infiniti J30, but im not sure if I can handle two cars.

Unusual question... It depends on the price and your situation. Do you need a truck, does your car have issues, do you plan to keep it a long time, and many others. You need to decide this and maybe talk to your parents about it. I don't see how an outsider can tell you correctly what to do.

There are positives and negatives to having 2 cars. I have a 99QX4 (which i've had for 8yrs) and an 07 G35 which i've had for a year now. But the question is, as was asked, what is the price? I assume you aren't making car payments now on your '93 J30, am i correct? As far as insurance goes, you have to play it right...which vehicle will you be driving more? In my situation i kept the G (the newer, more expensive) as a "secondary car" with minimum miles a year, therefore i'm not paying a lot to insure it. I'm paying just over $1,000 a year (i'm a 24yr old female) for my 2 vehicles. Another possible issue (among others i'm sure) might also be gas/gas prices...but everybody's situation is different. By the way though...the QX4 is a great, i'm sure you'll be happy with it if you do decide to get it.

I bought my '03 Pathy for three reasons:

1. I wanted a good 4X4 vehicle for Canadian winters, 2. I needed more cargo room for hockey equipment, and 3. My 95 Chev Lumina needed tires desperately, but I didn't want to buy tires for a 13-year-old car.

I've toyed with the idea of insuring both vehicles, but the gas mileage savings just barely cover the cost of additional insurance, registration, maintenance, etc.

Reason #1 is a good enough reason for upgrading to a Pathy, though. Slap on a pair of good winter tires and you have an awesome winter vehicle. The previous winter driving my FWD Lumina with balding tires was... adrenaline-pumping at times, to say the least.

Hey Lauren, your insurance is going to go up next year unless you get married!

If you want a good car for the winter, the Q is definitely a good choice. I have a set of studded snow tires for my QX4 and it is great in the snow and ice. I live in an area that has a lot of hills and gets a decent amount of winter weather, so having a 4x4 is almost necessary. I also have a job where I cannot miss work due to weather, so getting there is very important.

However, like others have said, you have some other things to think about.

1) the price of owning two vehicles2) the cost of insuring two vehicles3) the cost of maintaining two vehicles3) the added expense of fuel for the QX4 if you drive it a decent amount.

Also remember that things like tires for a 4x4 are more than cars.

I have three vehicles, my Maxima, QX4 and a GMC diesel 4x4. Even though I get multiple vehicle discounts on insurance, it is still more than just one car. I have a lot more oil changes, transmission fluid changes, air filter, fuel filter, etc.

When I take the QX4 on a long trip (more than 100 miles) it costs me almost double what the Maxima does. 16 mpg vs. 28 mpg.

The Q is a great rig to own, but it is more costly to own than a car.
