Hey guysNew to the forum here. I have come across a 1993 Q45 in my area for less than 1000, sounds like it just needs some TLC, but I was looking for some advice on what to look for(haven't seen it yet just some basic info on it so far). Has 195k on rebuilt motor. Says everything runs good and works. Both passenger windows are off track, sunroof latch is broken and passenger door interior is loose. Also needs brake pads. Seems like minor issues to me so far, especially since I don't mind tinkering. I don't have any experience with them so just curious. Parts shouldn't be to hard to come by with local pull a part, have seen some Q's there when hunting parts for previous hondas and acuras I've had(sorry lol). Will post more as I get more info on it and a test drive

Thanks

I'd say big no. There are much better cars for sale here.

Wonder why the engine was rebuilt?

If you have $10K to restore and lots of free time, maybe. Otherwise, you would just be buying someone else's basket of neglect.

Please read the sticky above.

That's not much of a deal, they sell all the time between $1500 and $2000 for cars that are in decent shape with normal wear items needed.

Many people believe that you have to restore the car to "as new" (hence $10K comment) but if you can live with some flaws I'd say you could get away with investing $1500 on the right car and love it.

Good luck!

DIY chain guides and under plenum hoses will cost over $1,500 for parts.

Who knows about the windows, transmission, PS system, brakes, suspension and other niceties? Depends if you can fall in love with a cheap trick, I suppose.

Yeah, you can definitely find better for the price. It has a lot more problems than I'd tolerate. Most of all, many of those problems indicate that it was likely abused or neglected. And I'm really curious as to the details of this 190k rebuilt motor. That's a lot of miles...it must have been rebuilt early on. Why?

I'd definitely pass if I were in your shoes.

Sorry my vote us no as well. look for a car that has maint records so you know which systems need attention first. I took me 6 months to find min but I got a 94 orig owner 120k and maint records since 94 for 1900. Keep looking

Its very possible to find a descent condition Q for that price.

You never know, just cause it looks bad doesn't mean it runs bad.

Also see if you can get the windows back on track !PERFECTLY! Unless its disabled.

I had a 95 wreck Maxima is similar condition... rocked it for a good year. Best engine/trans ever.

Thanks guys for the feedback!! I had done some lurking on here before I posted especially about the chain guides(nice info in there btw) I have emailed the person that had the Q, asking about the engine rebuild, how long ago and if the chain guides were replaced and if there was anything else that needed attention. Got a quick reply back about the car still being available, but no reply on the engine questions, so look like somebody might be trying to dump their problems.

Thanks again

Andy

Every V8 used car in US older than 2000 needs at least $3,000 worth of repairs, 15 year old V8s need more. But the good news is that the worst Q ever inspected only needed $11,000 not including paint, body work, or interior repairs.

Why you never buy a used car without paying an expert to evaluate and price repairs BEFORE you buy it.

I've seen G50's in my area average 1500 miles for a decent 160k'er. 2500+ nets a really sweet G50 round these parts. I myself paid 1900 for a straight Q with no damage anywhere but a ripped up drivers seat from normal wear and tear. Seat covers are cheap. Other than that, new tires (V-rated, not the crappy Federal S rated ones), chain guides and services I'd say I have about 4500 into it and it's a great machine. I'd say expect to have 5K into it if you do all of the work yourself, otherwise forget the Q. It's an expensivo car to own if you pay someone else to fix, Mt. Fuji ensures that. Most of the posts I've read on how daunting of a vehicle this is to repair are a farse as I've found it no more or less difficult than any other car newer than 1990. It's just an Infiniti. A really nice, cheap to buy Infiniti.
