I was talking to my dad about getting me a car the other day for my birthday, i showed him a couple cars wrx's bmw's audi's but he seemed most interested in the 240sx's i showed him on craigslist, he wants me to get a reliable car that we wont be needing to put money in repairs and that looks fairly new. this is what i found, and im wonder what you guys think of it... is it a goood buy? they seem kinda expensive.

For what's included with the car, it's a fair price. I would say he's asking about 1000 or so higher than what it's worth. The 1k body damage should lower the value even more IMO. It doesn't look like 1k worth of damage to me, but I could see some high end body shops charging that much. The car is clean (minus the damage), which is a plus. He's go 60k on a rebuilt motor, so if it was put together poorly, it would have grenaded by now.

I think for the money, you can find something newer and more reliable. 97-98 S14s are always going to be expensive due to the rarity of those years coupled with the more aggressive look of the front end over the 95-96.

If your dad is more concerned with reliability, try to find one that hasn't been modified to hell and back. While a 240 handles mods with ease, I would say one that hasn't been modified extensively would suit your needs better for now.

Good luck!

I second pretty much everything Hijacker is telling you. The car looks like its in pretty good shape, but as far as reliability goes you can definitely find something that's more reliable for the same price. That's a tad overpriced, but then again I only paid $3,000 for my S13 and it only needs about $1,000 worth of work. Just gotta keep your eyes open!

That being said, as far as Audis/BMWs go, parts for the 240 will be significantly cheaper than those European cars. That 240 looks like its in pretty good shape, but check common areas for rust. Here's a good guide for digging a little deeper, don't be afraid to talk the guy down on price!

Or look heres another one the owner posted on craigslist, i texted him and he told me: My motor was swapped in for a ka with 90,000 miles, solid Megan mounts. Now it should have about 120,000 I don't have pictures now of the inside because I just got this number not so long ago. The inside has se front seats and leather seats in the back. I have the recardo reps leather front seats at home. With the SE rims which will be given with the car. No suspension work stock height shocks and springs were replaced in 2011 ... It's rebuilt title.. That's why I have a kouki front.. Any Insurance will consider the car rebuilt for any little hit if the car paid for.. No bent chassis or any thing in that category. The whole front end is OEM parts from Nissan not ebay. The car AC went bad and I had an AC shop changed every single peace. I haven't put the condenser since the shop would have to take the front bumper to install it, and they were charging more then I can afford at the moment. I have the new condenser in the trunk. The paint is beautiful. Has a small paint crack in the front for parking it at the mall and someone backing into it. Has 5 lug, rims, limited slip differential. Back rear caliber brakes instead of the drums. The car has no leaks and is stock. Just a intake and a muffler. If you are trying to race the car, I do suggest a clutch. As a daily it's drives great. And he said it had no rust,
