Should I buy A Nissan Maxima QX V6 2.4L ?

Someone wants to sell his maxima QX 1998 model to me. The odometer reads 184,000.

I need advise from you users. Is it a good car?

hard to say. thats a lot of miles. but what shape is the car in? was it maintained...oil changes....all other fluids...stuff like that? how much does he want for it? give more info please!

The car is in top shape. seller promised to service it before selling. he's asking $5,000. Here in Nigeria

i guess its up to you. maximas generally last a long time if they are well taken care of. personally i wouldnt buy anything with that many miles on it. but you never know..... my first vehicle was a 1995 explorer with 175 thousand miles on it and it ran better and smoother than any vehicle i've owned since! try and talk him down a bit. i got my 2000 maxima SE with only 70,000 miles on it for 8,900.

Is it cheap to maintain? what are the main problems of the car?

someone told me the gear box is expensive to replace when it gets bad

im not exactly sure about the 4th generation maximas. i have a 5th generation. if you dont get enough answers on this forum try maxima.org

i joined that forum first. that forum has seperate sections for each generation maxima. so you could go to the 4th generation section and talk to people who have the same car you're looking to buy. that would be your best bet.

Ive owned 2 4th gens and both ran great... a 95 that i wrecked with 270xxx miles on it and my one i own now, a 99 with 111xxx miles... no problems yet
