Should I buy a left over 2008 EX35?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I have been lurking on this site for a while, it's the only site I can find to provide actual owner experience with the EX. Now I need some input from you guys here. Wife loves the EX35, and after looking around, and we are getting close to buy one. But now the 2009s are on sale, albeit with less incentives (about 3K less FWIW), but you can get the 2009s. Most of the left over 2008s are loaded samples but built date were all around March of 2008. So these babies have been sitting there for over a year now. Should I be concerned about this? Other than potential flat spots on the tires, anything else could go wrong by buying a car like this?I appreciate your comments. The deals are so tempting, so I am trying to convince myself before the 08s are gone.

I bought a leftover 2008 and had the same concerns but the vehicle is fine. I got $8K off of a $41K sticker price and then bartered for 2K more on my trade. Car runs fine with a small dash rattle. The TPMS light needed to be reset. Since the 2009 is exactly the same I wouldn't worry about it. Mine was built in early 2008 also. This is an excellent deal after having checked all GM products, Lincoln, Lexus, Hyundai, Toyota, etc. Mine only had 49 miles. Not too many color choices though.

Man, I would buy the 08, better price with rebates. I got mine for $11,500 off MSRP, the 09 can't be touched for that. Mine had 19 miles on it. "A CAR SITTING AROUND IS OK. NOTHING CAN GO WRONG." The miles is what you want low. Please read all my post about my EX. It was also built in 3/08, ok I had some issues with it, but the dealer (not where I bought the car) fixed everything plus some. I even got an 84 month battery, which are not installed in the EX's from the production line.

I like the 08 a lot and you should get one. The price is right and I am happy that I did. The key is to find a good dealer for service. Once a dealer sales you the car, they can care less about you after this, basically becuase now you will be dealing with the service department more. You need to make sure that service department is #1 more than anything.

I do not work for Inifiniti to tell you what to buy, only advising on my experience.

Good luck and tell us what you got.

Thanks for sharing your EX experiences. The one I looked at has about 100 or so miles, I guess from several test drives. The price I got quated is about 11K off msrp, after the little bit of add ons, maybe like 10K off.Just so tempting.

I agree with other posters that the car should be no problem to drive if it has been sitting for a while. Mine was 5 months old with 23 miles and felt like it should - brand new.

HOWEVER, now that the 09's are out, an 08 would be considered a one-year-old vehicle. Your negotiations should take that into consideration, especially from the depreciation angle. Recent 24-month lease residuals on an EX are 52% (souce: ridewithg.com), so expect that one year from now if you wanted to sell the car or trade it, your book value will be in that area. But, you will also have half the expected mileage, so that will add some value back. In the end, you need to consider how you will acquire the car (lease vs finance vs cash) and how long you will have it for (at some point the residual issue will be moot) to know whether $11k off (25% discount?) is a good deal or not.

If you are going to buy vs lease and hang on to it for a while, and can get the color and options you want, then it is probably a good deal.

If you are buying a 2008 EX35 make sure you check the VIN# and get the

newest 2008, not the early 2008. You know what I mean? An `08 is an

`08 but the older one`s has more crap!

Is there a date to separate the "early" '08 from the "later" '08s?

I am about to take delivery of a 2008 AWD Journey. I also have had the dilemma of picking up a 2008 now, or waiting for a 2009. You can reduce this question to simple math.

For a similarly optioned '08 vs '09 (remember, 09's have a higher base level of content):

((Price of '08) - (Price of '09)) > (Resale of '09, year X) - (Resale of '08, year X)

where X = year you intend to resell your EX35.

Basically, the longer you keep the EX35, the better off you are getting an '08

The VIN# can tell you the Manuf. date. most dealership post the vin# online on their specific car. You can always ask the dealership also or check the door.

With my experience, some dealers lie about the production date until you actually see it on the door. I have first hand of two dealers lying to me and to others about what car they are buying, especially if they have to order this from another dealer.

In my deal, the paperwork (order detail notice) showed a production date of 12/08, but the door shows 03/08. I called CA on this and now the dealer is in hot water.

Pull the trigger and buy it. The savings you'll gain at the time of purchase will offset the additional 1 year of depreciation at the time of sell. It might cost a few dollars less to insure also.

Technically, I believe they are identical cars. In this case, the vehicle year should not matter much.

Now build date might be another issue, but I have no knowledge of "gremlins" that the early models may have suffered from. I owned a 2004 VW Touareg and everyone warned to stay away from the ones built early since they had many issues. Many of them were bought back by VW. I do not believe that this is the issue with this Infniniti vehicle.

Buy the car, enjoy it, thank us later!
