I'll be getting a VLSD and some basic maintance parts this winter. Should I add an EBC to the list or spend the money elsewhere. Im spiking 11psi then stabling at 7psi on stock CA turbo. lol

I second the mbc. Reliable, cheaper, won't get stolen. Trust me, unless you do a lot of track days, you will most likely set the boost at a given level and leave it there. I recommend hallman or joe p.

dont buy one, save for a bigger turbo that you can actually turn the boost up on. ca turbos are tiny and not meant for high pressure levels

Yes, that is correct.

Well, at least it won't get stolen if some moron breaks in and just takes whats easy to obtain. CD player, EBC, ...

stick with a mbc, a ebc would be a waste of money for the stock ca turbo

i really dont want a manual boost controller. no boost protection and its easier to turn boost up on the EBC than the MBC (on the fly). im one of those people that if im going to buy something, im not going to buy it twice, as the stock CA turbo will not stay on for too long.

mbc are s***. ebc is the way to go and will be best for the longrun. the greddy type s 2 is a really good and extremly user friendly. i would recomend the upgrade of an sr20 redtop turbo for your ca. goodluck

hallman has a kit you can mount the mbc adjustment knob in the cabin. I loves my hallman.

If you're willing to spend that kinds cash it might be a good idea to invest in an hks adjustable boost controller or something like it instead. Of course if you plan on going outside of the garrett t2* line don't worry about it. But if you are it bolts on to all t2 framed turbos iirc and it'll control boost way more reliably than any mbc.

what causes boost creep, a hallman, or mounting it in the cockpit?

mounting in the cockpit

for the CA i'll probably go to the 2871R max (maybe) but who knows where i'll be later on. but i know i'll have more cars and more boost so i plan on getting a boost controller to suit my future needs as well..i thought the Blitz SBC i-D III looked pretty good.

^ i think mounting in the cockpit would be ok for the one specifically made to be mounted in the cockpit, since thats what theyre made for.

Ive got a SARD MBC. Its pretty solid. What I mean to say is, it could be used as a weapon. The lines run to it tend to get brittle and crack, making it leak, making me run a closed WG, which I must say is funner'n hell.

Greg its looking like I might be up in your neck of the woods at the end of the month, provided my buddy Robert can get a week off of work.

An EBC is a great investment. Most have target boost settings now that compensate for ambient pressure differences due to weather, temperature. Many also have scramble or multistage settings that can be a big benefit as your car makes more power. They are as reliable as you make them, and look pretty sweet to boot.

That being said, I run an MBC. I am running ~14psi on a T25g and an MBC works well for what I use the car for. I have owned a TurboXS and now a Joe P. MBC and loved both. I have also tired building one from Home Despot and it was horrible. But for a $250++ entry price, I would rather have a light driveshaft or a nice radiator setup than a EBC. Neither of my purchased MBCs have cost me over $50 new.

As a side note, when I totaled my coupe, they body shop I initially had it towed to had an employee with sticky fingers. My HKS TT and TurboXS both walked off. So, in truth, an MBC is still a target.

i look at EBC's as something i could always use, no matter what car i have that is boosted. if i decided to go bigger, i wont have to worry, and most have nice warning functions and such. also, the one i might get tells other ECU inputs

cheapest EBC (dunno if its good tho) is the AEM Tru-Boost gauge combo. At $250 is a killer deal, and I think it can reach up to 29psi with the original Solenoid.
