I've started my research and found a lot of good reviews, and some complaining that the 3.3L 170HP engine is not powerful enough. I've heard about the trouble on some hills, wind noise on the highway.

But these are all reviews already written. I need some actually input that I can put questions to.

Someone give me the Pros and Cons for this model?

I'm looking for a used Pathfinder because I can't really afford a new one (18month old), but I want a good reliable SUV that will take me where I want to go (city) and can handle some country driving (cottage in back roads) without kicking me out of my seat or getting me stuck in the mud. To tell you the truth, most of my driving will be city. But, I want something that can pass and have some power. Is a higher HP overrated for that type of driving? I like the style of it, I like the feel in the drivers seat (nice command of the road). The SE comes with nice features and the few I've actually looked @ has the bush bars, so that gives me a poser look as well. :D

Let me know what you think.

Thanks...

Just my 2 cents:I went looking for a 2k1 pathy last month. I was dead set on that 3.5L engine, so my wife and I go to local nissan dlr and all they had was a 2k3 model loaded for 36k. My wife thought it was a little cramped in the cabin and didn't like the styling. Just so happened that there was a 2000 black QX4 that just came in, we checked it out with safety and reliability in mind, especially because we have a 2 yr old daughter. We ended up buying it the next day. The list price was 25k, but when we came back there it was for 19,700. The ECU had been modified so the power is b/t the two engine sizes. The 4wd system is also more advanced/user friendly. I will someday own that 3.5L beast! But until then, I'm gonna enjoy this Q and I'm so glad we didn't opt for the pathy.

They are both real nice vehicles. And a great value in todays used car marketAnd the extra power of the 3.5 is very nice, but its also very popular making it a bit harder to find deals (but not impossible).

We got my wife one in 2001....man...She loves it...I do to.

It handles really well considering it is an SUV, It would run circles around the '95 Rodeo we traded for it...

Plus, we put teh Nissan dealer up agains the Toyota dealer as we were looking at a 4runner too....

We got the Brushgaurd, taillight gaurds, sunroof deflector and Leather interior [the dealer put it in] thrown into the deal....

It is a sweet ride....no wind noise....

So now we are a true "NISSAN" Family... '91 240sx hatch, '98 Frontier, 99.5 Pathfinder SE!

Ok i got a 97 3.3. I have had nothing but good luck outta my engine. I got it in 2001 with 51000 on it. The only problem ive had is a cracked manifold. Thats it. Needs more power??? Its a SUV. Havent seen to many of those on the race curcuit. Theres Plenty of power, and im a speedaholic. Above 55 theres excellent acceleration. Plenty! The highway wind noise comes from not having the luggage rack twisted tight enuff. Hills? Do you live in San Fran? Then dont sweat it. I got 2 kids also 2 y/o and a 7 month old. My car is our around town car. PLENTY of space and the carpet cleans very easily, I koww you know about those infant spills. Dont make my mistake though. Get 4X4! LOL! Mud can be a *****. I had a Wrangler b4 my Pathy and theres no comparison in the preformance dept.( i was making mustangs look stupid) but theres summin that make u feel proud driving a P-Funk!

I too was leary of the 3.3 L. But I drove a 99 1/2 QX4 with 43,000 miles and it has plenty of power. I purchased it the same day for $19,200.
