im in the process of looking at a black on black '93 maxima se. it has a 5 speed, and a replaced motor. the body has 167000 mi on it but the engine is around 46000 mi. i can get it for $1500. sound like a good buy?

p.s. if i do, i'm looking into slightly modifying it. any suggestions?

As long as the body and interior is good, that sounds like a fair deal. 3rd gen Maxima VG30DE, independent rear suspension...lots of room for upgrades. As long as the drive train is in good shape, I would upgrade the suspension first with polyurethane bushings, and new shock/struts, or coilovers if you have the budget.

Bummer!

What was the cost of the repairs?

You might get the seller to come down on it some. The 5-speed maxima is alot more car than most people think.;)

I assume you are talking about the VE30DE and not the VG30DE. The vtc is a common problem with that motor. Fairly easy fix if you are a decent shadetree mechanic with a FSM or a Haynes/Chilton manual. If you feel confident enough to do it yourself and the seller will come down in price due to mechanical defect, I'd get it.
