Should I be driving my R33 in California illegally??

Hello everyone, i had a concern and was hoping someone with the knowledge could help me. I just got my first 1997 skyline R33 GTST and i live in Cali. Say if i got pulled over. What would happen to me or my car? I was told to provide my Japanese title and bill of sale from previous owner and i should be fine, since there is a certain amount of days to register a car in my name. Can this work or would they impound my car no matter what? I also have dealership plates on my car, so it looks like i just bought it off the lot... Please some one help!!!

not to be a d!ck, but how is this a question, cali cops are ruthless on imports and moddified cars, i can guarantee that it would met its maker in the crusher, so i would not drive it if it's not US legal. thats begging for trouble

I was just trying to figure out whether they would impound my car or since i JUST bought it from previous owner, that they would let me go since i still have a few days to register it somehow.

Unless you're on your way to the state referee testing station of certified modifier for CARB related stuff, I wouldn't drive it. Even for those purposes, you should consider getting a one day temporary permit for transportation. Cops here know what a Skyline is. Straight cop magnet IMHO. Put it on a trailer and enjoy it at the track and other off-road stuff otherwise. You might have to stick to that for a few more years until it's 25. I don't know for sure, but I've been researching it. Cops here do impound vehicles for lot's of reasons, including registration issues, modifications and driving like a**.

I think some of the R33's actually pass the emission and saftey tests, but I'm not sure which years.
