Does anyone know what transmissions will fit a K24DE? and if so, which one is the shortest (bellhousing to tailshaft)

yea, ka24de trannies will fit. And they are the shortest that will simply bolt onto a de too. Whatever you are trying to do, you are gonna need to use the stock transmission. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

what are you trying to build a motorcycle around a ka or something? haha

KA24E or DE? truck engine 240sx engine? Either way you have some options, although in order to run the standard l/z/ka series transmission or associated parts on a 240sx block you have to do a few mods. Since you want the absolute shortest, i think this would fall into a nissan a-type transmission (240sx,hardbody, and most vg30e vehicles use a c-type transmission). These are the early datsun transmissions that came in 510, roadsters, and some early z cars. I think that these are the shortest overall. Nissan also made b-type transmission and put them in their z-cars and trucks in the late 70-early 80's. Some versions of these may be just as short, with the b-type you can get more custom internal parts and gear sets.

btw. with a/b type trannies on a more verticle mounted block like ka, the shifter will not be straight up and down.

I have all kinds of different ones in my shed, but they are under a lot of other parts. Ill look tomorrow cause ive never been interested in shortest one.

someone thinkin of frankensteining a small car? I will sometime....thats why I got a short transmission in storage, damn thing is a 4spd though. Its about 10inches shorter than the 240sx one. thats just off the top of my head, the hardbody transmission,s are shorter than the 240's and this 4spd is shorter than the hardbody trans. sorry I cant tell you what year or where to get it. Datsun though.

Hey, that is all good info. i suspected a 280z transmission would fit, but wasnt sure. i am moving the entire driveline from a 90 240 into a TR6 triumph, fuel injection and all. It should be great, i finally got the motor sitting in there and it is about 6 inches back and lower than the orginal, and weighs about 150 pounds less. Should be really cool. the problem with the 240 transmission is the shifter ends up at the back of the seat. i would have to build a linkage to get it back where it goes, which would raise it about 2 inches or so, yuck. it will be easier to bend the shifter on a shorty. Has anyone done this, does the clucth and all work?

You need to drill out the tapped threads in the datsun bellhousing (starter bolts). You have to use the 240sx starter which takes the bolts thru the bellhousing and the starter itself is tapped. You will also have to pay good attention to the throwout bearing making sure you have the right one so that it its back far enough. You have your handy 240sx transmission to compare to as you go.

Im not sure if the factory 240sx ka Y brackets will match up to the transmission. The y brackets i speak of are ones that attach block to transmission on bottom half. You could discard or redrill these to work.

The bellhousing pattern is same
