Anyone ever do this....I'd love a B&M but the vibration thing has me turned off. I had a Hurst in my 88 Mustang GT and it would freaking drive me crazy.

My VW VR6 had a Neuspeed one (I think) that was short and quiet.

Get a Pilot shifter then, B&M isn't the only shifter in this world.

or put some kind of adhesive sealant to the bottom of your B&M. If not, want to sell it to me?

I have a cheapy OBX short shifter, it and other brands like Pilot and a couple of others are C's clones. They also have a slight rattle at high rpms. Mine only does it when I am really on it and taking it to redline though. As far as I have seen, the B&M is the best one but rattles a lot more.

Does the sealant really work for the b&m shifter or does it just minimize the vibration alittle bit?

it takes vibration away. My friend did it to his s13 with the short shifter, and the vibration went away.

I've thought about shortening the stock shifter(yeah i know it's a cheap man's mod):oface

Two problems arise though, 1 the ebrake would bother me (might be different for other people though)2 you have to find a good place to cut it(there is a rubber bushing inside the thicker part of the shaft), then you have to weld it back together.

It's just a pain in the *** and the time is probably not worth it, it would be an interesting project though.

Cutting your stock shifter and then weldind the top back on would only shorten the actual length of the shifter, it would not shorten the throws. Aftermarket short throw shifters are typically not physically shorter in dimension, they shorten the throws by changing the pivot point on the shifter. As a result of the altered pivot point the linkage is moved farther with less throw. Although, more power to you if you have tools and skills to alter the pivot point or fab a whole you shifter. Personally I would just buy an aftermarket one, because even if you fabbed your own it won't have anywhere near the R&D invested in an aftermarket shifter.

Yeah, I always thought that the point of a good short shifter was keeping (mostly) stock height but much shorter throws. Personally, I like the position of the shifter, but would like a much shorter throw. I don't think I'd feel comfortable with a physically shorter shifter.

i have a friend that cut a section out of his stock shifter on his rx7 and welded the two ends back together, worked well for him, but maybe he has good welding skills.

Yeah man, seriously just go with a short shifter from the aftermarket, $100 isn't that horrible, I'm in High School working 12 hours a week and even I can justify that. Besides, you don't want to be like those S12 Guys now do you.

whats wrong with a b&m? i have one, and i dont hear any rattling or noise until i hit around 5500 rpm, i think of it more of a shift indicator ;D . the newer design got rid of alot of noise, even then, it didnt bother me when i drove my friends car, its hardly noticeable. if you have an exhaust, or a radio, you wont even probably hear the noise. and the advantage of the b&m, the firmest short throw youve ever touched, the throw is super short, and positive, no slop. well worth the money.
