I think that was one of my first questions when I bought my V. Sadly there is none yet. I believe it is a bit more challenging due to the reverse lever, but then again I am sure it can be done. No official one though if thats what you are asking.

Welcome to the forum by the way,SV

After shifting my V for a couple months, I don't think the actual THROW is the bad part of the shifter. (Well other than putting it into 3rd instead of 5th a couple times... ) You could always do the "quick & dirty" method of just pulling the lever out and shortening that. (obviously that works better without the pull-up thing for reverse though) OK so maybe this post isn't as helpful as I thought it would be...duh.

I'm sure they'll have them in time. You can get a short throw for VW's and they have the same style reverse lever as the Versa.

Damn...just went on eBay and found that the top where the shift knob is works and also the pull up thing is great! better than the Versa's, but the major problem is that the bottom is not the same. Versa's bottom thing is a ball shape whereas the VW is like a hook.

Anyone know where I can go to get one fabricated or a company that might be able to make/engineer/design one for me?

I'm not saying the VW short throw would work in a versa... I"m just saying that they both have the reverse lever so if they can make it for the VW they can make it for the Versa.

I had an idea for the "Quick and Dirty" method. I haven't worked out all of the details yet, but basically if you just cut the shifter to the desired length and put the shift knob on there, you're golden. BUT! In order to shorten the reverse lock-out lever, you need to cut a section out of the middle, then re-connect the two pieces. Or, if you have the resources to make a mold of the lever itself, and then just shorten the mold...cast the mold in plastic...and voila! A short shifter is born. I guess if you don't feel like making the reverse lever shorter, you could just cut it, and somehow make it a stand-alone piece. Like just have it down next to the shifter, with like a ring or something that is easy to grab on top.

I dunno, just some ideas I had about shortening the shifter. Even though, shortening the shifter itself, doesn't actually shorten the throw because the pivot point is the same. But still, the lever would be shorter, and if that's what you're after...then there you go.

There is a big difference in a "Shorter Shifter" and a "Short Throw Shifter". You are talking about just shortening the shifter length.

Blegh...I like your "Quick and Dirty method"BUTI guess I can also just get those trucker length shifters...lolAdd like 8 inches onto the shifter... since the "pivot point" is the same?

Well the plus to making your shifter much taller is that you won't have to move your hand as far from the steering wheel when you have to shift.... Thats a lot like how the shifting is done in a rally car.... except the stick comes from the steering column and its (sp?) sequential(sp?) So i do suppose you would have some kind of purpose in doing that....

THe less you have to take your hands off the wheel to shift, theoretically the more control you have. I think that's why they came out with those "paddle shifters", not that those work with manual trans's like ours.

I wish I could cut the one in a CVT too to make it shorter - It is too long and hard to reach the cup holders.
