When I start my KA, I hear a short squeaky wheel sound and then it goes away after a few seconds. I believe it's coming from the alternator pulley or belt. What does this mean when it squeaks only when I start up? By the way, it's not the extremely high pitched sound that you might be thinking. Think more like a squeaky, un lubed pulley.

The pulleys are not supposed to be lubed.

It is a belt. Tighten your belts, if the problem persists replace your belts.

grab the middle and twist it 180. if you cant twist it 180, its too tight. if you can twist it more then 180, its too loose. or just get the gauge.

Thanks, i'll remember that.. I do believe that my belts are on a little tight.. I doubt I could even turn my p.s. belt that much.. that may be why when I turn the steering wheel, the rpm's go down. eeh.

One or more of your belts are probably loose, but just to throw another possibility out there. The alternator pulley bearing is known for taking a crap if its belt is even slightly overtightened. If this happens it will produce a mouse wheel like squeek, and you will feel a little resistance with the belt off turning it by hand. If the bearing is not completely trashed, and you would KNOW if it was, you can usually save it. Get a tube of Mobil 1 Synthetic wheel bearing grease from any auto parts store. Remove the alternator, take it apart, and lube the hell out of that bearing. Be sure not to leave grease anywhere that it will be flung into places it does not belong.
