I'm looking to get the B&M short shifter but everybody talks about it making some kind of rattling noise? How loud is it? Is it really annoying or just kind of a "background" noise?

Newer-production short shifters don't have that problem. Just make sure you're getting one of the new redesigned ones and you'll be fine.

i dont think its too loud...if you have an alum shift nob it starts at a little lower RPM but its really not bad. for the change you get, its well worth the money.

I only notice it with the radio off, and even then it gets tuned out with the rest of the noises my car and it's interior make. You will hear it occasionally but its not bad at all if your not thinking of your car as a luxury vehicle

I got one of the "re-engineered" short shifters from B&M and I only notice the rattle when I have my hand on the shift knob and I am not shifting. For example, if I was resting my hand on the shifter and only then is it a little buzzing noise. The short shifts and overall quality of the B&M totally over-rule any noise.

How do I know if I'm getting a re-engineered one?

On one of our sponsers, enjuku racing, i found an OBX short shifter for $100 bucks. is the quality bad or is it worth getting this instead of the b & m. i only say this because i know i wont spend 250 for a short shifter

click the link in my signature . it will take you to a post with movies of the rattle.

Speaking of which, I need to make new videos since the shifter has been broken in now. The original movies were made 1 day after installation.

twofourzero...i dont know how the OBX is but i know you usually get what you pay for. a friend of mine got a sub $100 shifter and it eventually broke while he was driving...he had to drive home in 3rd. while it may shorten the throw a bit...it will be nothing compared to the B&M...just my opinion
