I picked up one of the 35 dollar egay short shifters and it seems to swivel. This is somewhat hard to explain but its like you can spin the whole shifter 360 degrees. Also, what are the two slits in the side of the ball for? here is a picture of what I got, anyone else who has installed this help me out.

I have only hand tightened the plate, but I dont see that effecting the swiveling.

that little bushing has the 2 slits for contraction when its put into the hole for the shifter.

the top part of the shifter can be taken out from the bottom part, the swivel might be cause you haven't tightned all the way, + the fact that its an ebay shifter.

ohhh those, i believe after you put that metal ring, the stock bushing or shifter retainer goes in, it has 2 pins on opposite sides, the ball with the slits goes in it to keep it from doing a 360 or so.

I bought my transmission without the stock shifter, I really hope I'm not missing the stock shifter retainer (the two pins that keep it from doing a 360). I might just be over analyzing the situation though.

OBX, Pilot Motorsport, Mr. C's, Fidanza, EGAY.... It's all the same damn thing.

And.... aside from not being as notchy and solid as the B&M they are all perfectly good shifters. I bought an OBX one back in 2001 and have been running it in my car ever since. No probelms what so ever.

Yea thats the part. It has so many different names: shifter retainer, bush socket, etc.
