I had a friend (Chris Jex) install a short shifter in my car...ive noticed lately that when the shifter is in gear...it wobbles around in circles if i move it....is that supposed to happen?? how can i tighten it up? Also, i know that the shift itself is shorter..but i want the actual shifter to be shorter..what can be done with that? Just cut it down and reweld it? Input is welcome, Thanks

First of all, what brand of short shifter. Second, if it's not B&M you can unscrew the top half of the shifter off.

it may not have any shifter bushings on the bottom. did he reinstall the bushings? you could cut the shifter, but it is generally usefull to have it close to the steering wheel.

on an s13 or s14 the bushings are little plastic things on the bottom of the shifter.

Yup it would.... before I replaced mine (on my stock shifter) the stick would be able to move in big circles, in gear or not.

There should be a little white piece of plastic on the end of the shifter, if it's not there then you can get one for like .35 at the Nissan Dealer.

The bushing could have broken and ended up setting in the whole were the shifter goes in to the trans.

That's what mine did... when I pulled out the shifter there was nothing but a little piece sitting in the shifter hole.

Really quick and easy install though... put the bushing on the end of the shifter and reinstall.
