that's what i was thinking! i checked and checked and checked, cleaned, wiped, dried.. the only place that i can find that's allowing fluid to escape is at the shifter.prior to the short shifter instal, there were no leaks. i changed the clutch roughly 3000km before putting the new shifter in, so i had to drain the transmission and re-fill it afterwards; the transmission was level, and i put only enough until it started to drip out of the fill hole.
i have a really steep driveway, and i have to go at a pretty narly angle to get up onto it.. still, i don't know if that much angle is enough for the fluid to build-up at the shifter, but it only seems to leak here at home. on a polished concrete floor, i can see a drop every 15 seconds or so come out after i park the car. any other parking lot though (and believe me, even though i look dumb, i'll lay there next to my car for a couple minutes, just staring..), i don't see any drips.
now, i'm not saying there's no other explaination, but this is the best i've got right now. last night, i tried to make a temporary "boot" to use until i figure something out that's a little less.. crappy.. i even tried using a latex glove! hahaha..it ripped. i ended up using a cone-shaped cutting of neoprene, and several zip-ties. neoprene absorbs a little bit, but it's flexible and it's all i had, and tonight, thus far, i haven't seen any more drops of fluid. we'll see what happens.
as far as the dust boot and fluids leaking, i don't know if it's original intent was to just keep things out of the transmission, but if keeps things out, then i'm sure it helps keep things in as well.
what the hell does everyone ELSE do with their dust boot?
