I had a situation a few days ago when I started my car. (1992 sentra, sr20de) As it was turning over, trying to start, I had something short out and start smoking. Looks like it was a ground wire coming off the transmission, right near the starter. The guy who put this engine in did a ghetto job and used a wire that was much too thin for the load it was carrying. So what happened was that little wire going from the transmission to the frame apparently got hot and became exposed, then made contact with a speaker wire and shorted. I rigged it back together in order to start the car. Just took it apart and stuck the bare wire into a hole in the frame, it started and I was on my way. I was only able to start my car 2 more times since then. all other times it had to be pushed and popped the clutch. last Wednesday, the engine stalled in 5pm traffic and was stuck, had to push the car out of the way and it wouldn't start. AAA towed me home. I spent the day today checking fuses and just trying to figure out what the problem is. no luck. can't start the car. I'd like to have it fixed by monday so I can get to work. I'm asking for any ideas of what may be wrong. by the way, I replaced the wire that burnt up. No luck from doing that. the car runs fine after starting. I hate electrical issues.all ideas are welcome. where might I be able to look for problems???
