so a search about "short ram intakes"(homemade and bought products) turned up quite a bit of useful info but i am still a little vague about a couple things:

1):does the MAF wires need to be extended or will they reach without altering?

2):is there an alternative mounting location for the ground wire from batt to engine on the drivers side?

3):is putting a little breather fiter on the valve cover o.k. or will it cause problems?

4):do i have to relocate anything else? I know i have to relocate maf, batt, run new batt leads, some vac lines to new intake piece.

5):what size of tubing is best?( i dont know the throttle body opening size,2.5?)thanks for any help you can give!

1) It might be a little stretched but should reach, if not lenghten it.

2) Find another ground on the body or engine

3) No problems

4) no

5) I think its 3" or more

save yourself the hassle, the short ram does not offer tremendous differences in gains

thanks S3

its not so much the gains i'm looking for cause my car is not for speed its for drifting but its more to clean things up under the hood (like fan shroud for electric pullers, air box resonator etc)

plus if i do my 24de to 24det re and re then it'll be easierthanks for the info btw: is that Taks dad in your avatar?

There's a write up on the 240sx.org installs page about a custom short air intake. If you're planning to go turbo then why not just relocate your battery to the trunk to save yourself the hassle. You don't want your battery to block the turbo... Maybe it's just me but I don't think it's safe to relocate your battery to the other side of the engine bay.

In that case, should remove fan should, stock clutch fan, relocate battery and yes the Short ram intake.

ya i thought it was him,i just got the first 2 dvds,

Anyways i'm still unsure of turbo mod yet. i am still a little undecided on what direction im taking this car in.....

why do you think it is unsafe to relocate the batt to drvrs side?

Because the battery wasn't meant to be there. It could fall off if not installed right. Also, that's where the stock air box used to be. If you don't properly seal off the air duct then your battery might get soaked with water when it's raining.

That's just my opinion and I'm no expert so don't listen to me.

Best bet, put the battery in the trunk...not only frees up space up in the engine bay, it'll add a bit more weight in the rear.

Go for popular SR20 swap or the plentiful engines you can shoehorn into a 240.

so i test fit the batt with a batt tray and the stock tiedown on the drivers side, works fairly good.a little bit of head scratching but that was due to wanting it to look clean and pro.like..not worried about water cause it always rains here and i've never had water thier yet but good point stillmatic so thanks i will keep it in mind.

cant put batt in the trunk because it vents and my optima has a cracked top(which doesnt really affect the batt but i also bent the post all up)cause it was... well.... dropped.

i dont think i will go with the sr20 motor,i'm starting to shy away from the most popular swap in history. I think i will try a CA18DET motor like in the stock S13180's. I have some friends with SR's and although nice i like to be different.

thanks again for your guys input and suggestions it always helps!!!!!

I thought it wasnt good idea to relocate battery on driver side because under intake, there is fuses, and relays, so I dont think its good idea to put battery there, unless you move wiring somewhere else, this I found on my 89' so I dont know about yours exactly.

ya i have the same relay box but it moves abit.i will definatly have to figure out something better for it.so after putting the batt back to the pass side and making it run(cant do more as i go to camp in the morn) and standing there looking at it for abit i've decided to bite and ask the question....if i move the batt to the trunk how did you guys do it? i ask the question because i want it to look and function right. I dont want wires everywhere or routed by something they shouldnt be. whats the 411?

i guess the reason i was iffey on relocating the batt to the trunk was mostly venting problems. I surfed the net and found a bunch of threads on sealing a batt box etc. but without the optima or blue diamond stlye batts what or how would a guy go about doing this?
