short block and long block

what is the difference between a short block and a long block?and which 1 do i need? i got a rod knock in my motor

As a quickie, a short block is, well, the block + the rotating assembley. A long block usualy has the heads and everything alse you need.

if you just want to change the bottom end (rods/pistons/crank) then do the short block. If you want more of a complete motor, do the long block.
