Well this is my first post here, so hello all, I am a moderator on http://www.maxima.org in the nitrous forum. My car, 1 97 maxima was totaled by an idiot driver swerving in front of me on Tuesday, and I am now in the market for a new car. I am considering purchasing a 91-95 240sx, but I must admit I don't know a whole lot about these cars. I have read through your faq's, but they have not answered all my questions, so if you could lend me a minute of your time to respond here...

Are there any 'known' problems with the 240sx from 91-95 that I should be concerned with (example, problems with transmissions, engine, electrical, etc.)?

Are there any specific things I should look for on my used purchase?

Is there any specific maintenance items that MUST be done and that I should look for? (example, on honduhs, if you don't replace the timing belt every 60k, you are just asking for bent valves)?

I am currently looking at a 92 5spd fastback with 90k miles, sunroof, power everything except seats, claim it was the wifes car... that's just one I'm looking at, looks to be in clean condition from the pics, but I haven't gone to look at it yet, they want $5200, seem like a fair price or no?

Thanks in advance.

:help

verry funny... Fine the price seems way overpriced... One I bet the guy is lying and two if the car is in perfect mechanical condtion, clean inside and out blah blah blah 4000 might be ok to him but damn even 4000 is way to high maybe 3500.

And if it isn't then 3000, I bought mine 91 and its a real rat for 3 grand. Well I mean its not that bad but she has her share of problems, shes not in her prime. Ok 3000-3500 is what you should pay for that car.

I never said I was going to pay $5200, that is what they are asking... if the car is in PERFECT shape, I may offer $4500, but even that is iffy... ;)

hahah, tell the guys he's smoking crack, bbv is not even worth that much. I wouldn't pay more than 2g for that car, I don't know about your supply in demand around your way. But it shouldn't make a difference, I bought my baby about 3 months ago for less than 1500, 60k on engine.

Hmm, I just put it in KBB in my area (98059) and they came up with $4100 in 'Good' condition, assuming that it is still...

good 240s are hard to come by... 91+ especially... i'm paying up the wazooo for mine... i know i'm gonna get my assed kicked for this, but i'm paying $4k for a white '93 with 65k mi on engine, 100k on chassis, lots of new parts, well maintained but has rusted spoiler bolt, and scratch on front bumper... market value was $3950 or so for the car in my area. sigh... couldn't resist the condition and color... in the end though, i only had to pay the high price because the seller had a $3800 loan on the car and couldn't sell it for less because of that. chances are you're not in the same boat, in which case you should offer in the low 3000's. there's a lot of competition out there for 240's nowadays!!!!

Just so all you guys know, I payed 5600 for my 96 base model with 79k, never modded. I don't know why people are asking, and paying, what they are for S13s.

Just so you know, its 89-90 for SOHC, and 91-94 for the other S13s. The S14 went from 95-98.

the '89-90 S13's run for around $2200 in my area.'91-93 S13's run for $3000 - 5500 (dealers)S14's run for $5500+

the only way i'd be able to get an S14 for $5500 is if it has high mileage. my goal was to find something below or around 100k mi and i met that requirement with the S13 i'm getting. plus i didn't want to go over $5k, i'm paying cash so i'd like to avoid stepping over my budget.

coming from New Jersey and South Carolina, i don't think you guys know how hard it is to get a good deal on a 240SX locally in California, esp. Northern CA... and i don't have the time to travel very far to find one. if i had settled for a '89-90, i could've gotten it for a better price, but i wanted DOHC without having to swap.

Yeah, more advice...be patient. I looked at 240s for over 4 months, till I found one that was acceptable.

My advice is to buy my white S14. It might be up for sale in the next month once I get my blue S14 running.

There's some pics on here if you look at the Kentucky meets...
