well a lil back story on this...i have a 93 ka24de with sohc pistons and a 248/248 swap and i was doing some experimenting with cam setups. I swapped in a altima 248 ex cam first and then tried the 248/232 setup and liked it so i stayed with it. Well as i was bolting everything back up after the swap a buddy stopped by and wanted to take a spin to feel the diffrence in the swap...well i got careless and got in a hurry to put the front cover on while shooting the breeze with him and left the shop rag in the front cover i put there to keep bolts from ending up in the oil pan and when i turned the motor over it binded in the idler sproket and timing chain and im assuming it jumped the timing on the exhaust cam and well u can guess the rest. i heard a noise i can only describe as " not good " :ohno: . well i pulled #1 plug and there was obvious damage so i pulled the head and found that i had broke both exhaust valves on #1 and upon further inspection bent the remaining six valves on the exhaust side...all the intake valves were fine. moral of the story, never i mean never get in a hurry to do something . pics included

I could understand forgetting a bolt or two from getting in a hurry but how do you leave a shop rag? Were you blind folded or not even looking at the motor while putting it back together??

Not to derail your topic or anything, but you mentioned you have SOHC cams in your DOHC motor. Now, I have been told many times that this is possible and it ups the compression. Now, Ive toyed with the idea of doing a compression NA build for my ride since Im building it for corner carving up in the mountains as Im privileged enough to live near Tail of the Dragon. So, any details on it?

Woah, you are terribly mistaken, a camshaft can never change the compression of the engine.

your talking about putting SOHC pistons in a DOHC engine.. that bumps the compression.

if you are going to be mountain driving in high altitude, you should REALLLLYYY consider a turbo.. even a t25 low boost setup.. it will make a considerable amount more power, at all usable RPMS.

Ka's werent ment to rev high.. they were ment to tow a 2800 lb car, with driver, and all accessories, very quickly

Damn that sux. Word of advice, ALWAYS turn the engine with a ratchet on crank before cranking it after head work. Believe me, it was a good thing I did a few years back looked down and a rocker wasn't seated properly.

That was a mistype on my part. I meant to put pistons.

well the sohc pistons was an idea me and a few buddies tossed around one night...they are all on boost sr's and kade-t so i just wanted something diffrent. the car runs really good and when i swapped in the 248/232 it really woke it up. no changes were made to run the pistons except that i run 93 all the time and keep a watchful eye on the timing.

here is the link for the pictures http://s1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc4 ... loudpedal/
u can see the flat tops in the pics

For anyone that remembers Foster, foostnit I believe was is SN, it's been a while. He found shop rags in his IC piping, even after making 400+ hp trq....
