Alright, my cars(1998 Nissan Sentra) transmission was leaking.

I took it to a shop, they called me said, "It's your axle seal, 130 bucks."

Within the next 10-15 minutes I recieved another call, "There's a hole in your transmission. It will cost anywhere between 1600-2000, I'll call around and get some prices."

I said ok, if I need to get it done I need to get it done. It took them two days to get the transmission, it ended up costing me $1300 in total.

I got the car back, and immediately had to go to work. The guy showed me my old transmission, showed me the hole. His explanation was that the pin that holds all the gears together burst through the casing and that was the cause of the leaks, he explained it was very common in Saturns and almost unheard of in Nissans. I have bad luck, but I'd imagine if that pin went that car would have shifted funny on the way to shop, or not have shifted at all. I'm not positive though.

The next morning before work I got the chance to inspect it, there were new scrapes along the doors(been meaning to the repaint the car was bought with a few scratches and scrapes over the body but no dents) and above my driver-side rear wheel well there was a crease as if they hit something in the shop. A car would have left paint or at least done more damage it's creased as if around a solid object.

Actually taking a look at my interior, I was missing all of my change as well as a ring my girlfriend had given me. I'm not sure what the proper thing to do is in the situation or if legally I have a leg to stand on, so I was hoping you guys would be able to clarify what I should do.

Also if I got ripped off, apparently it'd a rebuilt transmission with 87,000 on it rebuilt 13,000 miles ago. It seems to drive fine, but my clutch catches a tad bit higher than it did before. Any ideas on what that would cost?

stuff missing from the car you can't prove, so thats on you man never leave money or anything valuable in the car when its getting serviced. Especially if you're leaving it with them.

As far as the transmission, did they actually tell you it was a new transmission? b/c almost every transmission we replaced in my shop was a reman (just a rebuilt/ refurbished transmission). they quoted you 1600 minimum and charged you 1300...sounds like you came out better for that.

Also, if you're skeptic about an estimate, just get a second shop to do one...

Normally they can do a quote like that over the phone, at least for labor.. (shops hate pricing parts over the phone, its a waste of time )

But the crease on your car...do you have any recent pictures of the car before you brought it in? I'd be gunnin' for the GM of the shop...he'll talk to the foreman and figure out what happened..always inspect your car before you leave their parking lot..

A lot lessons learned for you, I suppose...GL

I actually have pics about a day before I had to take it to the shop.

So I can prove that, sucks about stuff missing from my car though.

Yeah, Dude that sucks you can't trust anyone with your car these days. Every time I get service done to my car I always take everything out of the car before I take it in. When I use to work at a Carwash when I was In High School There were some workers that worked there that would steal change out of the cars. So, next time just becareful O.K. Peace Out

Definitely suspicious. The pics, if you can prove the date, are good here. It could be that they knocked down the price on the trans job and hoped you'd take that and not mention the damage.

On the theft you're SOL. That sucks.
