if you have an unrestricted exhaust system (ie no cat or resonator, and a glass packed straight through muffler) then you can expect to see a few flames when you close the throttle plate off.

Ya, no cat = flames. I get flames all the time. With my GT25R i've been backfiring a lot too. I'm pondering different exhaust setups to prevent this. (WITHOUT putting a cat back on)

Ya, flames are cool. But for some reason the police don't find them as cool as everyone else ;)

I don't think switching your exhaust setup will cure your backfire.

If I get a 3in bypass valve that only opens when I race and put a Cat on my normal exhaust it'll fix it.. That's more what I was thinking.

FIRST response to everyone in order:

No, I have recently recurculated my BOV. I have a GReddy type-S BOV.

Yea I have a Trust Downpipe, Heavythrottle Test pipe, and the exhaust all the way back to cat.

I actaully had a friend hook me up with it. I can ask him and let you know. PM/ Email or hit me up on AIM for more info.

to fix your problem get a fuel controller. why spend all that money on a new exhaust?

I'm eventually going to go with a powerFC. But i'm getting a Tuned ECU first. So it'll be a bit before I can tune it. Hopefully with the ECU it won't run too rich. (gonna be running 740cc injectors)

You're playing with fire (excuse the pun) by running around without a cat. The cops will nail you to the wall for that. Be smart, run a cat, deal with the 5 less horsepower.

yea, I agree. Especially since your in CA. I risk the chance cause they don't check here in TN. I just put a cat back on for emission. :D

That would be a good solution, or get a 3 inch high flow cat. I brought it up because I personally know people who have dealt with the cops looking under their cars for the presence of a cat.

But that's only a Cali thing... :)

I've seen beat up cars going down the interstate in Alabama and Georgia with HUGE 50 ft tall plumes of blue/black smoke behind them for miles and miles. I mean, REALLY easy to see that the car has an emissions problem. Yet I've never ever ever heard of anybody getting busted for things like that around here. AL doesn't even have emissions - at all, along with most of GA.

Just to rub it in, we get 93 octane here too. :pface

same as virginia.

Ohio's even worse. They don't even have inspections. Or at least, they didn't have any last time I went back for a family visit.

For the back fire problem check for exhaust leaks from the turbo back.

Yea, here in Tejas we don't care, but for that if the cop looks under the car I made a sheild that looks like a cat that goes on my test pipe :):icesangel So whats up with all these knocks on College Station,lol.jk. I don't really care.

I shoot flames as well as you can see in my banner below me :)

It is probably caused by the walbro fuel pump...some times the walbro will flow more then needed. Getting an adjustable FPR or SAFC will solve that problem.

i used to live in san marcos (halfway between Austin and San Antonio). We had a friend who lived in College Station for a year and had returned after a messy divorice. He despised College Station, and he rubbed off on me for the jokes (i don't really hate CS, btw)

In FL we dont have to worry about emissions, since they got rid of the emissions testing.:D
