HAPPY 4TH FOLKS!!

Need some advise.....I'm also looking for shocks/struts for my 94 240. The roads here in Houston are "rough" and due wonders for suspension. I'm not into lowering the vehicle as there would be nothing left of the undercarriage if I did. My 97 is the base model w/15" wheels and adjusting is not what I have in mind due to selling the car off in a few more years. So TOKICO and KYB seem to be the favorites (bought KYB for my old 84 Supra and was not too impressed).Any recommendations on sites offering at a good price would be appreciated too. Thanks a million!!Your comments are most welcome.

PS - I'm off to work in Iraq on RIO Project and will likely purchase when I get back!

KYB GR-2's seem to be the consensus for affordable OE replacement. From what I've heard, they do fine as long as you don't lower the car. Most folks go for the AGX's from KYB for the adjustable bump/rebound, and they don't seem to have any quality issues (not sure why you didn't like them on your Supra).

The Tokico "Blues" don't have a very good rep, but I have no first hand experience with them. They aren't particularly cheap, either.

OE shocks are *extremely* expensive. I suppose your options (if you don't need adjustability) are some cheapo Monroe shocks or the KYB GR-2's. IMO, the GR-2's are cheap enough that you won't lose too much sleep (or money) if one of them blows prematurely. From what I've read, the ride quality on stock springs with the GR-2's should be pretty close to stock.

You can get the GR-2's from http://www.coximport.com or http://www.tirerack.com, among other places.

Hey thanks for your input! The 84 Supra struts/shocks were replace back in 87 and technology has come along way since then.OEM is not what I want or either is Monroe.Maybe GR-2 is the way to go.What was the problem with TOKICO?

thanks!

It seemed like a lot of people had Tokico's blow out on them, but in all the cases I can remember there was lowering involved. The Tokico's just don't have a great reputation for durability, whether it's deserved or not.

It's tough to gauge something like this from hearing about a few cases over the internet, but I would still question whether the Tokico's are worth the extra $$$ over KYB. The Tokico's are supposed to be a "performance" shock, while the GR-2's are OE replacements.

Personally, if I were planning on keeping the car for a few years AND had the money, I'd get a set of 4 AGX's for $370 shipped from http://www.coximport.com

They *are* adjustable, but are extremely popular shocks. Do a search for AGX here at NICO...you'll get a lot of hits.

I suppose it comes down to what you want out of these shocks...OE replacement or performance. If you want OE replacement, I'd say GR-2. If you want performance I'd pay the extra $$$ for the AGX over the Tokico's.
