I have a 1991 240SX with HICAS. I want to get new shocks and struts. I was looking at the KYB AGX line. I want something adjustable and these are in my price range. I also thought about the Koni Yellow Sport, but since the struts are inserts, I didn't want to get into cutting the ones I have. The problem I have now is that KYB says these wont work on HICAS. I contacted them and they said it was because they have not tested them on a HICAS car. All shocks and struts operate basically the same and I don't understand why these would not work. Getting rid of the HICAS is not a option at this time.

What I am trying to find out is what everyone with a HICAS car is using for their car and any reasons why the KYB's won't work. Also if the KYB is a good combo for this car.

Companies typically tend to only list chassis they have tested on. I was given the same party line concerning the convertibles way back in the day. They just don't want to get sued if something were to happen and a good lawyer was able to argue that it was due to selling a product on an untested platform.

Mechanically, it should all be fine. S13 HICAS units use the same mount style for the rear strut on the knuckle (post), IIRC, and that's the only thing that would be a show stopper (Zs and GT-Rs use the fork style mount)

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I forgot to mention that KYB was talking about their rear shocks, they didn't have a problem with the front struts. I also thought that my 240SX came from Nissan with the same shocks on the rear as the non HICAS, so it didn't make a lot of sense. What do you think about the KYB AGX for this car? I am not looking to race or anything, but to have it handle better than stock. Thanks.

I used to have a HICAS car and I put AGX's on them. They worked perfectly fine. The reason they fussed about it was because Nissan used different damper specs on the HICAS rear.
