My shocks and struts are sure firm and I get a clunk noise frm the right rear when I take off and then one more time when I come to a stop. I've not owned one of these J30's in primo condition or with new struts so am not sure how they are suppose to feel. It seems too harsh to me-not supple at all. If I need new shocks/struts is this $500 for the set about the best price?? Sure seems high to me. I see complete sets for Lexus for around $240. I know this ain't no Lexus...

The shock and strut design is unique to the J. I'm pretty sure that there are no aftermarket parts. You have3 choices either go dealer, buy a used unit from an auto recycler or go custom (which is more expensive than OEM).

4 brand new struts from Joe will cost you close to $800. Thats not including springs, mounts, bumpers etc.

Plan on spending $1000 to have your suspension redone..

I think diamondj30 said he got his done for about 1200 from koni and they do lifetime rebuilds.... If you keep the car for a long time, that may not be a terrible option!

My friend thought he had bad struts up front... Purchased the catridges, and I installed them for him... $500 later, they were installed, no problems going in.

However, they honestly didn't make THAT much of a difference. I say take it to a shop, and have them correctly diagnose it - you don't want to replacethe expensive stuff, and not get the results you wanted.

Just my two cents, let us know how you make out!

Hey diamond, did you only get the front shocks from koni? if so, do you have the part number for the shocks that I can get? Also, where did you get your spring setup? I am trying to find a company to make me some, but haven't come up with them yet. I am about to try various springs from other cars, but if you could help me out, that would be great. THanks.

THanks alot for the info. I am actually going to use coilovers in the front, but the rear, I am still working on it. I have something that might work from another car though. Have to pull off the rears and try. Hopefully, if I can find the front shocks, at least the fronts will be lowered this weekend. So you say I can get either maxima or I30, or they are the same part number? Do you know what spring rates you have, or what the stock spring rates are?

My brother is looking at a J30t in KC with only 63.5k on it for $9,500. The owner and he agree that it rear end drifts pretty bad on bumps and such. I have heard here that the only rear struts for this car are OEM and it is $1,000 job to have them replaced!!

Is the oscelating, or buncyness of the rear over bumps usualy the rear sturts on the J? Why would they wear out in only 63k???

It's the age of the car you have to consider also. And $9,500 seems high for any J30.

I was wondering IF the rear struts are to BLAME for the bouncyness. Also if the OEM ones that are $$$$ are the only option and how much it should run him to replace them?

Joe has a whole suspension rebuild kit (f cartridges, r struts, TR bushings, etc.) for around $800, as I recall. I also recall Q45tech saying that the springs ought never need replacement, so that should do it. If, as presumably is the case, they havent been done, all these parts need to replacing

Also, Im not sure why your ride would stiffen w old struts, if anything it should get bouncy as the struts deteriorate.

And 9500 is insane for J, keep looking. I love the car, this is my second. But the great thing about them is that they are a buyers car -- the depreciation is insane.

My bro had a tech check the rear suspension on the J30t he is looking at and the tech saisd that the bouncyness was from a lot of negative camber in the rear end. He said a FULL four wheel alignment with shim kit should fix it!
