My shocks are making some clunking sounds and it is time to replace them. I dont want oem or oem equivelant. I want something that is more performance, at the same time, I am way to lazy to acutally adjust my shocks so i do not want shocks that are adjustable. This is i believe my second time posting on this forum so i apologize if it is in the wrong area, i know you guys are very strict where threads are being started. And i did search other threads for this but didnt find anything that interested me.
SO just a recap. I need new rear shocks, Im in a 2008 Nissan Altima coupe 3.5SE
I am not interested in lowering my car, and i am not interested in adjustable shocks. Any answers are greatly appreciated. and since i am new to learning how to use the forums i would greatly appreciate someone to email me with answers as well as possibly telling me a little about the forum. Also, if anyone is in the bay area, CA hit me up.
hooters_boiiathotmaildotcom , wouldnt let me post my email because i havnt posted more then 5 times:/
thanks for your time. again, i apologize if posting in the wrong area, someone has got to teach this noob how to use the forums.

Welcome to NICO!

I'm not sure what kind of aftermarket shocks/struts are available, if any, for the 3.5. It is also possible that some have come into production since I have researched this, so if someone knows more, please feel free to jump in and correct me.

Many just go with a set of coilovers. You can get Teins that aren't adjustable and provide more performance for close to the same price of a spring/shock combo (they'll be a bit more expensive).

Pretty sure KYB is the only available after market shocks for our cars. I was told they are on par with OEM, but I also believe I read DJbeasy has them on his car and says they ride much better than stock?

I do have the KYB shocks and struts and in my opinion, yes they do ride better than stock. I should point out that I do have Eibach springs installed. So the OEM/Eibach combo does not ride as nice as the KYB/Eibach combo. I assume that KYB/OEM would ride better than OEM/OEM.

As for the KYB being the only available option, I do not think that is true. LBC has Megan shocks and struts. When I was researching the KYB the sedan and coupe part numbers were the same. I think if you can find a sedan aftermarket it SHOULD fit the coupe. Just contact the manufacturer.

So I checked out megansperformanceracing.com
And the shocks you were talking about are for the sedan only. The coupe and the sedan have a different mounting system. Changing shocks on my sedan altima is a lot easier then changing the shocks on my coupe. Also please excuse my ignorance but what are coilovers? I know where the go on the car but what do they do compared to the shocks?

My bad, I just checked my messages from LBC and MONROE is the brand he told me he got. But if you are saying that mounting points vary from the sedan for shocks, maybe he only got struts from them, not rear shocks as well.

Just out of curiousity, how is it easier on the sedan? Coupe is the bolt through the control arm and two nuts at the top. Took me less than 10 minutes (on the side that didnt have the sheared control arm bolt). Is there LESS than that on the sedan?

I haven't replaced the shocks on my coupe yet, just seems like it is going to be harder then the sedan because its a smaller space. But I'm glad it was an easy replacement for you. And I've also checked out Monroe shocks a while ago and was unable to find shocks for my coupe. But I'll check again.

I got my KYB shocks and struts from Parts Geek; they had the cheapest prices I could find. You will also notice that they list Monroe Shocks/struts for the AC. I have the Eibach/KYB combo, and I am very pleased with them. It’s the best mod I have done so far.

Did you get the EiBach camber kit as well?

How much was your labor charge for it all? I'm being told 1 hour per corner so around $400.

When I got the car aligned, everything was in spec, except the rear camber. It was off one degree. The tech said that was not far off enough to have much effect. Before I bought the camber kit, I wanted to see if the car would align in spec, my car was out a little. I have got the camber kit; I just have not installed it. I would like to get the rear tires in the “Green Zone”.
As far as instillation, I did it myself. It was time consuming, and I’d rather not do it again. If you can get it done for $400.00 I’d say go for it. That’s, if you can supply the parts. You can get the springs online for half of what some shops would supply them for.

that's good to hear, I have a leaky front and rear and OEMs are $100 a piece. Might try them

I've been riding on Eibachs for awhile now and my stock oem shocks/struts are just about gone.

About the same but I drive aggressively at times so they've worn more quickly.

Please dont pay someone to do this. It really is easy as long as you dont have any seized bolts. And if you do have seized bolts, your install cost is going up anyway.

I honestly hate dealing with suspension work, especially the springs. I've known people that have gotten hurt doing it the wrong way without the proper tools (which I don't have) plus the rear isn't as easy as the front.

The rear is 30 x easier than the front. It is literally 3 bolts on each side, 2 at top and 1 through the control arm. As long as the one in the control arm isnt seized, it will take you less than 10 minutes per side.

Auto parts stores by me lend out spring compressors, nothing like that by you?

The last time I had mine done they had to go through the backseat to get to the rears. And not sure on spring compressors but as I said, that s*** is dangerous if done incorrectly. I think I'll keep my fingers and pay the $400.
