i'm thinking of getting the ac lift coils and buying the struts and shocks elsewhere. I plan on kyb gr2 struts and rancho shocks maybe 9000xl. i know the struts should be stock size but what size shocks do i need? also is it possible to cut down or swap springs from another vehicle instead of buying the $400 ones from ac?

here's the deal. Basically I've got a ton of work to do.

- First the suspension mainly shocks and struts. I've wanted a lift for awhile so I'm adding it to the list.

-Second tires. Since I ate a curb not long ago and am without a spare.... wheels.

-Third CV axles and while I'm in there tie rods and ball joints.

-Leaving the best for last timing belt 160k I know.

So I'm looking at more money than the truck is actually worth so I'm going to try most of the work myself to save as much $$$$ as possible. With the wealth of Knowledge on this forum I think it is possible.

Ordering the correct shocks for the (soon to be lifted) rear is the first step.

Thanks i'v been looking at both. Tire wise i don't want to go to tall i just want more width and need the lift to try and get around the fenders.

Love your truck by the way.

Yeah Emu is cheaper than AC springs, and only 1/4" shorter. But dang, I'd just go with KYB struts- Emu's are expensive.

Quick question, on http://www.rocky-road.com/pathfindersus.html, under 'Pathfinder 96-2004, 1.75" lift', in the rear OME shocks drop down box, what's the difference between '1/99' and 2/99' and what does that mean?

^^ thats when nissan changed a whole bunch of things on R50's. It got a new transfer case, mirror tints changed to black tint, different headlight bulbs (went 9004 to 9003), qx4's went from a smoked headlight to a crystal headlight assy, etc etc etc a whole bunch of subtle changes that you cant really tell until you get down to it. one of the changes was the orientation of the rear struts... you shoudl check the production date on your door jamb to determine if yours is a 99 or a 99.5

mine was made in 4/99 so technically its a 99.5 when it comes to parts

my born on date 6/98... so 98 or 99 with mirror tint. A salesman at AC told me the front struts will be stock length and rear shocks will be longer. i ask for the product number for the shocks, but no dice. i guess he's trying to secure a sale. - another quick question.. what manual hubs fit the Q? I've been to parts houses and knowone can seem to find hubs that fit? Is there any differences in the Q's and Pathy's front drive axles that i don't know about?
