Hello. I own a 02 F50 with the active suspension. I am currently lowered on swift springs (.9' up front and .5 in the rear) and the rear rubs on my after market wheels when I hit dips with people in the back.

Im looking to get stiffer shocks for the rear since the ones I got are pretty shot. I just got a set of insuance springs from japan which are about 2' drop up front and 1 in the rear. The rubbing will only get worse once I put these on. What are my shock options? Does KYB have anything?? I have searched on google and am not able to find anything for the F50 with active suspension. Please help! Thanks

If anything, youre not going to be able to retain the "active damping suspension" (not really an active suspension, to be technical)...

Im not sure if anyone makes aftermarket shocks for the F50 like they do the Y33, i bet falk would know since hes on top of most of that stuff.

To maintain the OEM adjustable shcok feature, you will have to stick with stock.

Can't imagine a 2" drop being fun on NYC streets.

I bet KYB does make some as F50 and Y34 and FGY33 are virtually the same floorpan and suspension. They will be only available in Japan, though. Then there are coilover options.

Might check with Van aka OneTonGarage.

Only G50 had an optional Active (really semi-active) suspension. Later models were only adjustable shock rates as spring rate never varied.

I have a feeling your going to be in a world of hurt as they have not sold very many of these cars in either Japan or the US. What size rims and tires are you using? Where are you hitting, if it is just the lip of your fenders a few bucks for a fender roll should fix that, but I wouldn't go any lower until your figure out some shocks that will replace the stock ones, and if you go stock with a lowered car you can count on wearing those out quickly.

Thanks guys. I didnt find anything for the F50 from KYB but I will look into something that may fit with minimal work. My fenders have been pulled over 35mm in the rear so a fender roller isnt going to do me any good

I dont care about the stock shocks wearing quickly since I plan on slamming it with air and running camber to get the wheels to sit flush.

If all you're looking for is a temporary fix until your air suspension comes in, you might want to look into a cheap, NASCAR trick: Spring Rubbers. They sell them at most auto parts shops, they're rubber rings, with dents for the springs to rest, and cut in half so you can yank one out in a pit stop to change the handling. What they'll do for you, if you can get thick enough ones, is prevent your springs from squatting down more than the spring rubbers allow. It's a possible temporary fix anyhow.

I've said this on other forums, but I can't wait to see your car finished!

Thanks alot Falk, you have a beautiful car as well. I actually remember reading about those on a pontiac forum about 2 years ago I just wasnt sure what they were called or where to get them. Thats what Ill do for now.

I used them on my old Maxima for years, it was an 85' Maxima with 300ZX rims, had to roll the fenders but still kissed too often with the 215's I ran (stock was 195) they work great and are cheap, you might need to jack it up a big to get them in depending but they work well especially in the back, and if you do not like them it is 10 bucks or so and you just yank them out as Kevin said.

FM-based chassis right? All about looking for parts made for the Y33 and V35 cars...
