What should I use to lube the shaft of a shock/strut?

nothing, the top seal wipes away the internal fluid as it moves up and down. Does the same in opposite with contamination when the piston is outside of the housing.

actually i remember some company makes damper lube...tein maybe?

i saw it in a store in japan once...
