In most cases, if you have time to plan things out, it's cheaper to fly, drive back unless it gets horrible gas mileage and you have to pay for multiple hotel stays.
That would certainly be more fun. Heck, you could hit the Tail of the Dragon on the way home.

But that option assumes the car is roadworthy for such a trip. You also have to set up a temp tag and insurance.
