How do you ship large items without them costing an arm and a leg? I've got a set of trunk springs to ship to someone. They don't weigh much, but they're bulky. The local US Post Office said they're too big to ship through them. The local UPS store wanted $180-$200 to ship. I know y'all ship fenders, seats, wheels, tires and all sorts of stuff. How do you do it?

Where is Joe heh. I too have had some issues shipping, sometimes its too large, other times too heavy. The most impossible for me, is overseas - who do you guys ship through. I dont want to charge somebody 40 or 50 shipping for a $20 used part

I use Greyhound Bus Lines. They will handle for instance Lincoln fenders, bumpers etc. at a fraction of UPS and DHL. Just pack things well to withstand being slung around.

I second this. It's a GREAT deal if they serve your shipping destination. I've used 'em with complete satisfaction in the past.

Can these trunk springs be taken apart? I have the two hinges and the long rods in between.

DHL has always been way cheaper than UPS and Fedex for me when shipping big heavy items.

I use DHL for most everything. ive never paid more than $80 to send a set of wheels across the country.

I like DHL better because ive had 2 packages lost by fedex and they did nothing to remedy the situation... Screw fedex. DHL gives you insurance and a cheaper rate if you have an account, plus they come to your house to pick stuff up.

Ive used greyhound too, theyre great if where your shipping to has a pickup location nearby.. I shipped 2 doors for a Q across the country for less than $100 (indiana to sacramento)

USPS is good for shipping internationally, because theyre the only ones that do surface shipping...

DHL has a reputation for loosing things and than being a pain in the @$$ about it. I would not recommend DHL. I would recommend Fedex Freight. They have done really good for me. It isn't just the normal FedEx, make sure it is freight. You can go online to FedEx.com and get a rate. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that.. Wes i work for fedex and can assure you you talked to the wrong people on that one ... also fedex will come pick up stuff at your house.. Have to agree w/ 1990QOwner on the Freight thing to should give you a good price ........

Now that being said How big is this item ?? the ups price seems way out of line you can ship up to 150 lbs and 170 inches long with fedex ( i could be off on the length i can remember If we could figure out a way to make the people shipping pay for their own stuff i can get us a good discounted account with fedex i am just not sure how to get the payments to the account ... paypal maybe ill work on this

Won't the trunk springs fit in one of the triangular tubes that FedEx supplies for free?

I ship a lot of parts but not really anything of any size. A couple of spoilers is about the biggest. I've got fenders in my shop that would take hours to package properly. They're going to have to be sold locally.

I ship most all my parts from my home using USPS. Priority mail can get anywhere in the lower 48 in 2-3 days. I've never had a problem one. If the package won't fit in my jumbo mailbox I take it to Kinko's/FedEx. It's close and convenient and they've also never let me down. It might be a couple $$ more expensive but the convenience outwieghs the expense of driving to another location.

I also keep a supply of cardboard for making custom boxes. Not everything on the Q fits in a standard size box. I've spent many an evening downstairs with a razor knife playing boxmaker.
