hows it goin guys?! ok so i bought a project s13 and the SR swap was in the trunk and boxes. Now its a totally different story and it's ready for the build. Im just having trouble b/c theres only 2 shims for the head and i cant find the others, also theres no size on them like ive seen? I askd the dood i bought it from and he said that it was ticking just a little bit from the head and the motor should have about 45K on it...my question is does ANYONE know about what clearance it should be at with that milage? I just want to get it togeather, always can go back once it running and tuned to get rid of the click. The tomei test kit comes with sizes 27 and 28 so it might be closer to 30 maybe?? Thanks for Any and ALL help guys!

Does it have a solid lifter conversion?

Well..this will be a PITA but you can put one of the shims you do have in, one valve at a time and torque the cam down and measure the lash.

Now you take the measurement on the feeler gauge that fits the best and add the measurement of the shim, then subtract the valve clearence spec, this will give you the the required shim size.

The only thing is that you will have to do it one at a time because you have only a few shims.

lmk if you have any issues

wow. I guess I am completely confused about how this works. I had previously been under the ipression that the whole point of the stock hydraulic lifter was to eliminate the need for shims, with the oil pressure pushing the little nub up on the guide and basically fudging any inconsistencies and filling in the gaps that would be there if you used solid lifters.

I mean, I didnt think that the stock head even has shims to begin with.

read the fsm on how to measure for shims, it does a decent job of explaining it. They arent used to adjust lash, just to level the rocker.
