I have the motor apart at the moment and i noticed that my cams and lifters look a little oil deprived....Has anyone else shimmed the oil pressure on the pump? If so how much did you shim it and what was the increase. Thanks for the help.

Yes, mine's been done. Check with Ivan at AMS, he's the one who set mine up.

well, mind you i havent actually driven my car yet, but i bought the rebuild kit from AMS, first. Then when i installed it i added one thin washer...approx. 1mm thick. when i started the car it idled at 50psi pressure. while revving with no load on the motor (approx. 4000 rpm) it is at 75psi. i am not sure how much is too much but this is what i saw. i did let the car idle for about 20min to see if it would change as the car heated up but stayed at 50psi.

I did this on my old mazda motor years back & had similiar pressures. My machinist told me though that sustained pressures greater then 80psi can wash the babbit off your bearings.

Upon reading your pressures on your KA, I think I will remove one shim, & try to find a thinner shim. I had about 2mm of shim in my new oil pump!

I'm running a TOGA high-volume pump, and I run about 50psi cold, 30 psi hot. I'm also running a MONSTER-sized thermostatically-operated oil cooler.

Just so you know, I saw one of the AMS guys took a TOGA high volume apart and said it was identical to stock.
