why do you need to shim your diff? if you swapp you stock internal diff out for another diff (kaaz or nismo) and you keep the same gear ratio keep the shims on the same side as they came out on install the ring gear to the diff and reinstall the diff in the housing and reinstall the shims bk to there proper sides, not to hard, why do you think you need to reshim?

Shimming a vlsd is supposed to be a cheap alternative to a true clutch type. It preloads the vlsd and provides better locking. It never will work as well as a clutch type but it seems to work quite well for people that are on a budget.

I got it later on Its in wohooo!!!!! Shimming your vlsd like above preloads it and acts more like a clutch type diff. A 2 way lsd 7-1100 bucks shim 14 dollers after my rust repair and ka-t build my bank account needed a break.

You always re-shim a diff if you swap out the internals for anything. The point of shimming is to help set the way the gear teeth mesh. If they mesh incorrectly; ie the load point on the ring gear is near the egde of the tooth instead of the center, then you stand the chance to break teeth when you put a shocking load through the diff. Every diff is different due to the way they were designed, or from seasoned wear, so if you ever pop a diff out of the carrier to swap for a new one, ALWAYS reshim.

Shimming to pre-load a VLSD is a no-no in my book. All you're doing is causing premature wear on the bearings. If you bought a VLSD, then use it as a VLSD, don't try to force it to act like a clutch type.

I no expert and i know its not the way your spouse to do things but it works pretty well for most until they over shim it i only added one more then stock and i haven't drove the car yet but the diff feels a lot more locked, use to i could force(by hand diff out of car) the axles different ways now i cant at all. i plan on getting a KAAZ 2 way but this build has put a huge dent in my car account. Need to put about 2k into my honda to keep it on the road.
