So long story short i lost 2 shims and mixed up the order of shims to the rocker guides.

I need a dial indicator and micrometer odviously. but in order to check the shim and rocker height theres a pole that goes were the lifters goes to support the dial indicator in order to check the measurements. (saw it in a engine rebuild movie). were can i get one of these and can anyone help me out and give me a little more info on these tools so i can get a better idea what i need to get this done right.

thanks

probably not. i think hijacker said that he bought a lifter and then attached the dial indicator to the top of it . there is a tool somewhere........ though im not sure. i thought that i would throw that out there. you may want to ask him.

tool part # KV10115700. I'm still looking!I wander if it would be hard to make one of these: We might be able to just drill out a lifter and use that as a stand.

I never finished making my custom stand. I kind of got side tracked, but basically I just took a small hacksaw, and cut off the retaining collar from an old lifter. Once the collar is off, the innards of the lifter come straight out. The collar is a crimped on piece, so all you have to do is tear it up a bit and it will come out. After that, take a rod of whatever thickness works with your dial gauge and JB weld it in place. You just need to make sure it's stands true and straight. You won't get an accurate reading from valve to valve other wise.

The CS tool is amazingly well built and I would highly recommend it to anyone when they start shimming up their heads.

I have it and it works great a tiny little play but you just push the rod slightly back while taking all the readings and problem fix I might use it once in a bluemoon but I like to have my own tools so I didn't mine the price.

$175.50 shipped? Good find! I made my own using a socket the same size if a lifter.

Very cool, that is way to do it if you can.

The biggest problem is making sure the stand rod is straight when making your own. The FSM says the level of slack in sizing is +/- .025mm. So the tool should be more accurate than that.

When I went to make my own, it ended up being the bracketry and armature that kept moving, even if ever so slightly, and giving me inaccurate readings. Those black hand tightening clamp type brackets... no fun.

Like this:

The is a solid bracket that locks into adjustment firmly and easily (hex keys). It also uses a digital gauge instead, that you can use to quickly calculate the needed shim size.

here is the instruction guide for the tool
