Hey guys, I own a salvaged 96 S14 Zenki. My question is, is it normal for a S14 to NEED to shift at around 10 MPH? I mean first gear almost feels like its not there. I also noticed that if I am on the freeway going 90 it feels more forced than normal. Ofcourse I have no way to know what normal is it just doesn't feel right. At first I thought maybe it was a muffler or a cat that was plugged up. I got a new muffler 2.5 and got 2.25 piping from the cat and removed one of the resonators. That seemed to help a little. Oh and I also put a Cold Air Intake which also seemed to help. Now what I was wonderin since the car is salvaged. What if they put a S13 transmission or driveshaft or differential. WOuld that also feel the same?

Oh and on a side note. My Temp gauge moves around a lot. When I push the gas or am running high rpms while not pushing the gas the temp gauge goes down. Anyone know whats goin on with that?

Other than those 2 things the car runs like a champ!

It should feel no differnt then an s-13. How are the brakes will the car roll on its own and not come to a stop like the brakes were applied? My thinking maybe a hanging brake caliper. As far as shift points, same as a s-13 shouldnt be much different. The tranies are the same in both models. Maybe a diff was done and the gear ratio is different??

The temp gauge may be a bed connection at the sending unit on the engine. have the key in the on poisition and have some one wiggle the connector see if the gauge moves. Its the single wire black connector.

no my tach seems fine. For some reason my RPM's feel off. I had a problem like this back in the days when I raced Z's I dont remember exactly what happened but I think I put the wrong drive shaft or wrong differential? It was a long time ago. Anyways Yeah I think it forces me to shift way to soon. Eventhough it only says 3500 rpms it feels like im at 5000 or 6000 rpms

Maybe be your MAFS then...although I thought when it went bad it was at 2500rpms...Maybe fuel filter clogged.....spark plug gap....Those are the 3 I can think of right now....

well its not really 10mph today i was shifting at around 20 mph but it still feels forced. I recently changed the plugs so not that. Ill try the fuel filter next. What is the MAFS and how would I fix that? I can take the RPMs all the way to the Redline though

mafs is mass air flow sensor

it's the thingy behind your air filter that has 3 or 4 wires dangling from it... it measures the amount of air that goes to the engine
