2002 Sentra shifting hard into second?

Hi, new here and I just bought a 2002 Sentra SE-R as my first car. I have already started to tune up the car, I'm sure the poor thing hasn't had anything changed on it from 2002. Anyway, when I'm driving I notice that the car shifts hard into second gear. It is even more noticeable when overdrive is off but that could just be me. The only time I don't notice it is when I'm turning the car right oddly. I didn't know if this was a common issue for the Sentra or Nissans in general (coming from a Toyota family). Could it just be it needs a fluid change or something I'll have to live with. Thanks for your time!
